Twelve letters, [c. 1809], 1831-1849, mainly from Edward Copleston to his sister Frances Copleston concerning the illness and death of their mother. One letter (f. 31), from Edward Copleston to his nephew John Gay Copleston, has been published in W. J. Copleston, Memoir of Edward Copleston (London, 1851).

Papers, 1703-[1900], of the Copleston family, mainly comprising correspondence of Edward Copleston, provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and bishop of Llandaf. MSS 22718-21 are apparently in the hand of his nephew, the Reverend W. J. Copleston.

Transcripts of seventeen letters, 1899-1900, from 2nd Lieutenant Barton H. Besly, 2nd battalion, Devonshire Regiment, mainly to his mother, giving an account of his experiences while on active service during the relief of Ladysmith.

A volume in the hand of W. J. Copleston containing transcripts of, or extracts from, fifty-nine letters, 1822-1830, all except one from Edward Copleston to his father, relating mainly to family and ecclesiastical affairs; together with an extract in another hand, relating to Copleston, from J. H. Newman, Discourses on the scope and nature of university education. Addressed to the Catholics of Dublin (Dublin, 1852).

Letters to Edward Copleston,

A volume in the hand of W. J. Copleston containing transcripts of, or extracts from, over sixty letters to Edward Copleston from various correspondents, 1814-1828, and from Edward Copleston, 1819-1828, mostly addressed to his father, relating mainly to Copleston's appointments as provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and as bishop of Llandaf. Correspondents include Lord Dudley (11) 1814-1827, Lord Grenville (3) 1814-1827, Sir Robert Peel (1) 1828 and Lord Liverpool (1) 1826. Originals of some have been published in W. J. Copleston, Memoir of Edward Copleston (London, 1851). Most of the letters from Lord Dudley have been published in Letters of the Earl of Dudley to the Bishop of Llandaff ed. Edward Copleston (London, 1840). Also included is a draft biography of Edward Copleston (ff. 71-90 verso inverted text), presumably compiled by W. J. Copleston in preparation for the Memoir.

A volume in the hand of W. J. Copleston containing transcripts of, or extracts from, sixteen letters from Edward Copleston to members of his family, 1804-1814, and one from Lord Grenville to Edward Copleston, 1809. They relate mainly to a tour of the continent undertaken by Copleston in 1814, and to events at Oxford University during the contest for the Chancellorship in 1809 and the 'Edinburgh Review controversy'. Some of the letters have been published in W. J. Copleston, Memoir of Edward Copleston (London, 1851).
