Notes on anatomy

A volume, 1816 (watermark 1809), in the hand of Robert Pughe, written whilst a student at St Thomas's and Guy's Hospitals, London, containing notes of lectures on anatomy delivered mostly by Astley Cooper.
Subjects covered include the circulatory system and blood, the nervous system, muscles and bone structure (pp. 1-115), ligaments (pp. 119-135) and the brain (pp. 150-176, inverted text); there are also notes on the treatment of gonorrhoea (pp. 116-118). A contents list for the first series of lectures (pp. 1-115) is on p. 177.

A volume, [c. 1754], in the hand of Richard Pughe, surgeon and apothecary, of Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, later of Llanegryn and Hendre, Abergynolwyn, Merioneth, containing notes on human anatomy and physiology taken mainly from William Cheselden, The Anatomy of the Humane Body, 3rd edn (London, 1726) (ff. 1-28 verso), Alexander Monro, The Anatomy of the Human Bones (Edinburgh, 1726) (ff. 29-38 verso), and from lectures delivered by William Bromfield (ff. 39-68), together with medical prescriptions (ff. 101-29 verso, inside back cover).
A short monetary account, 1816, in the hand of the surgeon's grandson Robert Pughe has been added on f. 84 verso.

A volume, 1817, in the hand of Robert Pughe, whilst a student at St Thomas's and Guy's Hospitals, London, containing notes of lectures delivered by Sir Astley Cooper on the surgical and other treatments of wounds, hernias and various illnesses.

Notes on theology

A volume, 1696-[early 18 cent.], in the hand of John Tibbots, later Vicar of Darowen, compiled mostly whilst a student at Oriel College, Oxford, containing notes and transcripts in English, Latin and Welsh on subjects including theology, church history and logic and including also several sermons.

The single text in Welsh is a short homily to be read to repenting adulterers, entitled 'Coffaad bur neu Ddarn o rybydh i dorwyr priodas a godinebwyr...', apparently unpublished (ff. 74 verso-77). A short memorandum concerning butter, [1792], is on f. 2 verso.
