Aberfan Voices

Material relating to a sequence of poems titled 'Aberfan Voices', written by Tony Curtis and Grahame Davies to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster on 21 October 1966, when the catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip situated above the South Wales village destroyed Pantglas Junior School and adjacent houses, killing 116 children and 28 adults, each poem accompanied at the readings by a displayed photograph taken by photojournalist and screenwriter I. C. (Chuck) Rapoport. Material includes tour schedule of poetry readings; draft and fair-copied poems; letter to Tony Curtis from Chuck Rapoport; and email correspondence between Tony Curtis, Grahame Davies and Ceri Wyn Jones, Editor of Books for Adults at Gomer Press.

According to a note in Tony Curtis's hand, the article was published in the arts magazine Golwg in 1998.

Draft manuscript and typescripts, with corrections in Tony Curtis's hand, of an article by Curtis relating to an exhibition by artist Ken Elias titled 'The Pictures', which includes Curtis's poem 'Couples from the Fifties', previously published in The Last Candles (Seren Books, 1989) (see, for example: https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/The-Last-Candles-by-Tony-Curtis/9781854110053). According to a note in Curtis's hand, the article was published in the Turner House art catalogue in June 2000.

Copy of essay by Tony Curtis, titled 'That Golden Decade - David Jones, Ceri Richards, Merlyn Evans and Josef Herman: the four Gold Medal winners at the Welsh National Eisteddfod in the 1960s', to be included in a portfolio, published July 2008, of commissioned essays and a set of original prints to celebrate the Contemporary Art Society for Wales (CASW)'s seventieth anniversary. Essay annotated 'FINAL' in Curtis's hand, presumably indicating the final draft of the work.
Together with letter, 2007, to Tony Curtis from architect and planning consultant Eldred Evans, giving permission for Curtis to reproduce a painting titled 'The Refugees' by her father, painter, printmaker and sculptor Merlyn Evans, as part of the published essay.

Together with printed programme of the play's performance at Barry Island Community Centre, 30 May 2013. The following noted are written on the covers of each copy: 'May re-draft'; 'post chapter 11/5/12'; 'June re-draft'; 'June 7th version'; and 'Nov 2012'.

Barry Art Central holocaust exhibition

Proposal for a collaborative presentation featuring poetry by Tony Curtis and visual work by film-maker and photographer Jo Sowden as part of the Barry Art Central holocaust exhibition, held January 2017. The material includes photographs taken on a preparatory visit by Tony Curtis and Jo Sowden to Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Germany, together with grant request form to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
