A composite volume, the contents being: ff. 1-26 verso, 'Llyfr Barddoniaeth. sef y Gelfyddyd o ganu Cerdd Dafawd yn dda. O waith Gwilym Ganoldref. O Wynedd', i.e. William Midleton (the transcript, which is in the hand of Iolo Morganwg, is said on f. 25 verso to be copied 'o Lyfr Ieuan Tir Iarll, sef Sion Bradford', and appears to be similar to that found in NLW MS 13096B (Llanover C. 9.), pp. 201-235; there are references to the text published in Dafydd Lewys, Flores Poetarum Britannicorum . . . (Mwythig, 1710), pp. 59-80, on ff. 3 recto and 7 recto; Iolo Morganwg dates his 'Rhagysbysiad' on f. 2 recto as follows: 'Trefflemin ym Morganwg Chwefror yr ail, 1806', and a note on f. 1 recto, 'For Mr. Wm. Owen', suggests that the text was to be sent to William Owen [-Pughe]; for confirmation see NLW MS 13221E, pp. 139, 143, and also NLW MS 21282E, no. 370; ff. 27-59 verso, 62 recto-verso, 'Llyma Gadwedigaeth Cerz Davawd This is the Institute of the science of Language', being Welsh and English versions of a bardic grammar in the hand of William Owen [-Pughe]; f. 60 recto-verso, a transcript of a 'Toddaid Taliesin' with notes by Iolo Morganwg; f. 61 recto-verso, 'Cywydd i Syr Walter Vicar Brynbuga ag i'r chware Miragl a wnaeth ef yno', attributed to Meredydd ap Rhosser, beginning 'Pwy'n Athro call wrth Allawr ...', in the hand of Iolo Morganwg, who claims to have copied it from 'Llyfr Mr. Lewys o Ben Min'; ff. 63-66, vocabularies; f. 67, memoranda by William Owen [-Pughe] dated 1807; and f. 68, printed proposals for printing Dosparth neu Gramadeg yr laith Gymraeg ... o Gasgliad R[obert] D[avies] o Nantglyn. The collection consists of four groups, namely: a collection of manuscripts, [late 16 cent.]-[18 cent.], containing transcripts of Welsh poems and prose items being largely volumes of Glamorgan origin acquired by Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) and forming part of his library (NLW MSS 13061-86); miscellaneous notebooks, papers, etc., of Iolo Morganwg, bound into eighty volumes (NLW MSS 13087-162); miscellaneous papers and correspondence of Cymdeithas Cymreigyddion y Fenni ('The Abergavenny Cymreigyddion Society'), 1836-1848 (NLW MSS 13182-5E); and miscellaneous other manuscripts (NLW MSS 13163-81). The second group (NLW MSS 13087-162) contains a mass of notes on matters of Welsh literary, historical, and antiquarian interest, transcripts of historical documents, transcripts of Welsh poems, series of triads, and prose compositions, and copies of original poems, essays, and reports by Iolo himself, etc. Amongst the historical and antiquarian material are items which Welsh scholars do not accept as authentic but which they regard as being spurious and the fruit of Iolo Morganwg's inventive mind. The literary material too has its quota of items regarded as forgeries, including Welsh poems written by Iolo Morganwg in imitation of the style of earlier poets and attributed by him to such poets. The accounts given of the contents of the manuscripts which belong to this second group are intended to be descriptive and not analytical and, except in the case of major 'forgeries' such as the chronicle 'Brut Aberpergwm' and the poems attributed to Dafydd ap Gwilym, and a few other items such as letters attributed to the Rev. Edward Gamage, no attempt is made to include comments on the authenticity or spuriousness of the items noted. Many of the Welsh items contained in the volumes belonging to the second group were published with English translations and notes in Iolo Manuscripts: A Selection of Ancient Welsh Manuscripts in Prose and Verse from the Collection made by the late Edward Williams, ed. by Taliesin Williams (Llandovery, 1848) and Barddas; or, a Collection of Original Documents illustrative of the Theology, Wisdom, and Usages of the Bardo-Druidic System of the Isle of Britain, ed. by John Williams (Ab Ithel), 2 vols (Llandovery and London, 1862-1874).

Miscellaneous letters, the correspondents including Thomas Charles (1755-1814), Thomas Coke (1747-1814), Wesleyan minister and missionary, John Jones (regicide) (1597?-1660), Michael D. Jones (1822-1898), etc.; two original Rebecca letters; papers relating to William Davies, Froodvale, Carmarthenshire; a note in the hand of Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) (1747-1826).

Papers of John Bedford, 1762-1791, largely relating to his time in South Wales, and deal with iron-making techniques, his interests in experimenting with and improving these techniques, and the state of his own business ventures in forging and quarrying. The papers include notes on iron-making techniques, 1763-1788; management and business papers, 1766-1791; correspondence, petitions and miscellaneous notes, 1766-1789; and quarry notes, 1762-1789.

A version of the collection of Glamorgan pedigrees which forms the basis of Clark's Limbus Patrum, written about 1770 (607A); poetry by Edward Thomas and others (608A); and a transcript by Iolo Morganwg of an account of Glamorgan from the manuscript of Edward Gamage (609A).

A copy of Evan Evans (Ieuan Brydydd Hir), Some Specimens of the Poetry of the Antient Welsh Bards translated into English ... (London, 1764, ESTC T145881), bound with Rhys Jones, Gorchestion Beirdd Cymru ... (Shrewsbury, 1773, ESTC T116041). On blank leaves added to the volume and on the margins of printed pages David Samwell (1751-1798) has transcribed poems by himself and by other writers and there are also obituary notices of Welsh poets and others by Samwell, as well as press cuttings and a printed copy of Ode for the First of March, 1791, St. David's Day. Inscribed to the Gwyneddigion Society of London, by Dafydd Ddu Feddyg ([?London], 1791, ESTC T231564). Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg) (1747-1826) has added some notes on Glamorgan bards.

A volume containing a transcript of 'Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain' in the hand of William Owen [-Pughe] from a manuscript of Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg). A note on the fly-leaf reads: 'Gwilym Owen o 'Meirion. Cyvysgriviad o Lyvr I. gan Iolo Morganwg. Cyvysgrivid yn Heol Penton, B.A. 1800', and the original manuscript mentioned was probably NLW MS 13177E (Llanover E. 15).

Accounts, 1766-1778, including an account book recording Bedford's receipts and disbursements from 1766 (the time he was based at Trostrey); some fragmentary accounts that have been annotated by Iolo Morganwg; and a workman's account for labour at one of Bedford's collieries in 1778.
