Title deeds

Most of these deeds and papers are in their original bundles, although a very few are loose deeds that have been bundled together for convenience. Most bundles are title deeds, although some might be better described as family deeds, and a number of bundles of deeds will be found with the family papers (Tredegar P) rather than here.

T. E. Ellis further correspondence and papers,

This group represents further papers deposited by Mr. T. I. Ellis (see Annual Reports, 1964, p. 26, 1965, p. 27, 1966, pp. 26-27 and 1969, pp. 48-49) and it is these papers which have been gathered together and catalogued here. The numbering is a continuation of that used previously, and the general method of cataloguing has been retained. The main part of this collection is made up of letters addressed to T. E. Ellis (nos. 3217-3850), which mostly date from the 1890s. The most important letters are those of Lord Rosebery who was Prime Minister from 1894 to 1895 and leader of the Liberal Party until his resignation in October 1896. This correspondence illuminates Rosebery's uneasy relationship with other prominent Liberals and includes Rosebery's letter of resignation as leader of the Liberal Party, along with a covering letter to Ellis explaining the reasoning behind his decision (nos. 3750-3751). See also family papers (nos 4738-5036).
