Breconshire estate papers and title deeds

Estate papers and title deeds of the Breconshire estates belonging successively to the Lewes (Lewis) family of Borden, Hurst and Abernantbychan, Walter Pryse of Painswick, Lewis Pryse of Woodstock and Gogerddan, and Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park (on behalf of his eldest son by Margaret Pryse). The title deeds relate to properties mainly in the parishes of Llan-gors, Llanfihangel Nant Bran and Llanfihangel Tal-y-Llyn, 1488-1774. The estate administation section includes accounts, rentals and vouchers, letters, and miscellaneous other papers, 1680-1826, some of which relate to the sale of the estate between 1805 and 1807.

Personal and general correspondence, including some copy replies by Roparz Hemon. The names of the more notable correspondents are given. The majority of the letters are in Breton; others are in French, English, Welsh, Irish, Cornish and Esperanto. Arranged chronologically in yearly files.

The group comprises the papers of Anne Griffith Jones, 1871-1893, relating mainly to the period before her marriage to Rees Jenkin Jones. Her maiden name was Anne Griffiths.

Literary and broadcasting papers,

The group comprises mainly drafts, proofs, notes, printed sources and letters relevant to the preparation and publication of Hubbard's own books and his articles for magazines and newspapers, 1862-1980, similar papers linked with his editorship of the works of other authors, 1891-1976, radio and television scripts with related papers, 1949-1958, and royalty statements, accounts, bills and receipts resulting from his professional work, 1948-1969. There are also six boxes of card indexes, compiled during Hubbard’s working life [approx. 1933-1988].

Canine research papers,

The group comprises research notes and source materials, [post-1786]-1995, kennel and stud books, 1846-1961, newspaper and magazine articles, 1816-1993, pamphlets and circulars, 1901-1997, accumulated by Hubbard as an author and editor of canine literature. Additional material includes obituaries and tributes to Doggie Hubbard, 2000 and 2003.

Work-related letters,

Letters, 1948-1995, mainly work-related, from publishers, organisations, breeders and private individuals, on a wide range of canine and literary topics, together with copies of speculative enquiries to publishers and other letters written by Hubbard.

Administrative and financial records of the North Wales Employers' Mutual Indemnity Company, an insurance company based at Regent Street, Wrexham. The company was registered in July 1898 and appears to have ceased its operations in 1952. Other records, including ledgers and register of members, are in the Flintshire Record Office.
