Original and typescript copies of letters to John Ralph Ormsby-Gore, first Baron Harlech, his wife Sarah and other members of his family, 1832-1875. Correspondents include Montagu Corry, Benjamin Disraeli and William Watkin Edward Wynne, on the creation of the Barony of Harlech, 1875; John Wilson Croker, 1832, William Ormsby-Gore, 1837, Lord Hill, 1853, George Francis Seymour and others on the Boundary Bill, 1832, political representation in Shropshire and Ireland, freedom of public worship, 1862, solicitation of his support for career advancement, personal responsiblities and political support for him among the tradespeople of Oswestry, 1874.

Eight letters, 1858 [?1859]-74, from Tho[ma]s Stephens, Merthyr Tydfil, seven of which are addressed to D. Silvan Evans and one to W. W. E. Wynne, Peniarth (copy). Accompanying one of the letters to D. Silvan Evans are transcripts of four letters, 1846-9, from the Reverend Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), writing from Penmaen Dovey n[ea]r Machynlleth and Llanrhaiadr, Oswestry, to Thomas Stephens ('Casnodyn'). Subjects touched upon include D. Silvan Evans's orthography [i.e. Llythyraeth yr iaith Gymraeg], the 'Madogwys', the Llangollen essay, the (new) bishop of Bangor, the Hengwrt manuscripts and articles for Archaeologia Cambrensis.

A transcript made in 1575 by Sir Thomas Williams ('physycwr', 'o Drefriw') of an ancient manuscript written on vellum and then in the possession of Maurice Wynn of Gwydir. It contained a Llevelys version of Geoffrey of Monmouth's 'Historia y Brenhinedd' preceded by 'Historia Daret'. In the transcript 'Historia Daret' wants seven or eight pages of its beginning, and ends ' . . . dwy vil a phumcant o ganlyniawdd Antenor, mil a deucant Helenus ac Andromacha. Yd hynn ydd sycrivened historia Daret', with a list following of names of Greek and Trojan warriors slain by leaders on either side. 'Historia y Brenhinedd' begins (without the prologue): 'Aeneas yscwyddwyn wedi ymladd Tro a destryw y gaer . . .' and ends: 'Ac yuelly y tervyna istoria y brenhined cenedl vrython ynys Brydein ac ymladeu Tro a Groec'. The text is followed by a short Latin poem beginning: 'Bruti posteritas Albanis associata . . .' There is also a Welsh 'englyn' on a blank page between the two texts and at the beginning of the volume are two letters from W. W. E. Wynne (Peniarth) to a former owner of the manuscript, 1875.

Wyn o Faesyneuadd Esqr . . .') by Elis Cadwalader, written in an eighteenth century hand (cf. Pen. MS 239, p. 349); 'Map of a house & garden at the Bont in the Parish of Llanbrynmair, 1850'; autobiographical details put together by the Reverend Samuel Roberts, 'S.R.', c. 1852, for John Crockford, Esq., Critic office, 29 Essex St., Strand, including a list of his published works in Welsh and in English (holograph copy); extracts by W. W. E. W[ynne] from two deeds, 1556 and 1565, concerning lands in the township of Isygarreg, described as being bound up in [? Anc.] Pen. MS 5, p. 142; will, 1810, of Evan Roberts of Dolgadfan Mill in the parish of Llanbrynmair, co. Montgomery, with a letter, undated and incomplete, on the reverse side beginning 'Garedig Berthynassau . . .'; and extracts from two deeds, 1627 and 1653, concerning lands in the township of Isygarreg within the parish of Machynlleth, co. Wynne, together with a proof copy with corrections in the hand of W. W. E. W.; a manuscript pedigree of the Foley family; and verses entitled 'The Shropshire Bouquet'.

A volume containing memoranda, 1627-1639, in the hand of Lewis Anwyl of Parc, Merionethshire, and Cemais, Montgomeryshire, with additions, 1648-1656, in the hands of his daughter Catherine Owen (née Anwyl) (f. 12) and her husband William Owen of Brogyntyn, Shropshire, and Clenennau, Caernarvonshire (ff. 11 verso-12, 13), recording family births, marriages and deaths, and other events, and including an account by Lewis Anwyl of the death, 14 May 1637, of his first wife Frances, daughter of Sir William Jones, Castellmarch, Caernarvonshire, with a description of her virtues (ff. 7-11).
Notes in the hand of W. W. E. Wynne of Peniarth, identifying the writers of the additional memoranda, occur in pencil on ff. 11 verso-12, 13; a note in ink by him questioning the age given on f. 158 verso of Edward Herbert, Cemais, is tipped in as f. 159a. A transcript of the manuscript was published by Wynne in 'The Anwill Manuscript', Montgomeryshire Collections, 9 (1876), 357-364.

Transcripts by Angharad Llwyd (1780-1866), including pedigrees and Achau Saint from a John Jones of Gellilyfdy manuscript, genealogies from other sources, notes on rectors of Bangor Iscoed, monumental inscriptions at Overton and Nannerch churches, extracts from parish registers, etc. at Overton and Caerwys and from the Llangynhafal vestry book, a cywydd by Gutun Owain (fl. ?late 15 cent.) and Lewis Daron (fl. c. 1520), Llythyr i ofyn rhwyd berced, and recipes; a letter, 1598, from John Spark to John Salusbury (1567-1612), Llewenni, and one, 1833, from William Watkin Edward Wynne (1801-1880) to Angharad Llwyd; etc.

Genealogical papers relating to the Owen family of Clenennau and Brogyntyn, which include a memorial inscription to Sir John and Dame Jonet Owen [at Penmorfa] commissioned under the terms of Ellen Owen's will [1702]; copies of monumental inscriptions, baptisms and burial records of Catherine Owen (nee Anwyl) of Llanddyn (d. 1685) and several of her children at Llangollen; and a copy of an inscription to John, infant son of Sir Robert Owen at Llanfihangel-y-traethau. The file also contains 'Deductions of Genealogies and Heraldry' by Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), dedicated to John Owen of Penrhos by the author [pre-1823], showing the ancient lineage of the Owens of Penrhos and including the trial of their ancestor, Sir John Owen of Clenennau; a letter to Mary Jane Ormsby concerning the fate of Arthur Owen and heraldry of the Maurice family among other topics, 1811; pedigrees showing the marriages of Sir William Maurice and the family of John ap Meredydd; and extracts from papers of W.W.E. A scrapbook, 1867-1882, begun by Evelyn Phillip Shirley of Ettington Park, Warwickshire, following his visit in August 1867 to his friend W. W. E. Wynne of Peniarth, Merioneth.
The volume initially contained ten photographs of Peniarth and its environs (ff. 11, 19, 21, 23, 25, 29, 31, 33, 37, 40) with numerous further photographs (and photographs of prints) being added showing other local views and related houses such as Glyn (ff. i verso-47 passim). Also included are leaves from W. W. E. Wynne's Pedigree of the Family of Wynne of Peniarth… (London, 1872), with hand-painted coats of arms added (ff. 2 recto-verso, 12 recto-verso, 20 recto-verso, 22 recto-verso, 24 recto-verso, 26 recto-verso), and additional manuscript notes by Wynne (ff. 13-18); four letters to Shirley from W. W. E. Wynne, [1868]-1877 (ff. i verso, 3-10, 34-35); three letters, June-July 1880, from W. R. M. Wynne (ff. 41-44) and E[dward] Breese (ff. 45-46), following W. W. E. Wynne's death, with copies of Breese's obituary of Wynne (ff. 50-52); and papers relating to the building and consecration of the Wynne Memorial Church at Bryncrug, 1880-1882 (ff. 53-59).
