A scrap-book compiled by 'Golyddan' and entitled 'Darnau o Hen Newyddiaduron, &c. Cyf. I, yn cynnwys llythyrau ieithyddol Arthur (Nicander), a dadl ieithyddol Geraint Fardd Glas (Gweirydd) ac Ioan Meirion, yng nghyd â lliaws o bethau eraill ...'.

An album of annotated autographs, photographs and engravings, printed matter, press cuttings, etc., compiled during the years 1858-1881. The volume is almost entirely devoted to persons who were prominent in the literary and musical life of Wales during this period, and it appears from internal evidence to have been well known to the compiler's friends and contemporaries. The autographs are largely in the form of personal entries, recorded mainly at national and other eisteddfodau, but there are also a number of mounted holograph letters, 'cut-out' signatures from holograph letters, and franks. Four hundred letters, 1834-1841, 1847-1848, and undated, relating to Cymdeithas Cymreigyddion y Fenni (Abergavenny Cymreigyddion Society). About half their number are addressed to Thomas Bevan ('Caradawc'), the Society's first secretary. Of the remainder some are addressed to John Evans ('Ieuan ab Gruffydd'), who succeeded Thomas Bevan as secretary, and to the Reverend John Evans, Llanover, who was chairman of the Society for more than one term and secretary from (?) April 1846 onwards, while a few are addressed to other individuals, among them Sir Benjamin Hall, Lady [Augusta] Hall, J. Hiley Morgan, Abergavenny, and the Reverend Thomas Price ('Carnhuanawc'). The matters discussed include subjects for competition, prizes, subscriptions, arrangements for the Anniversaries, etc. The letters have been rearranged slightly and renumbered and a list of the old and new series numbers has been supplied. The letters are addressed to John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'), Pwllheli (4), 1791-1806 (corrections to addressee's poetry, tributes to writer's brother, Humphrey, after his death, some short poetical compositions by the writer), to Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris'), Llandygai (8), 1799-1819, (poetry, subjects upon which writer desired addressee to compose hymns, meetings of bards and eisteddfodau, comments and news of contemporary poets, writer's health and work), and one letter, addressee not named, 1804, (addressee's poetry which writer had received, desires addressee to render 2 Samuel XXII in strict metres and to ask other poets to do the same). The poetry includes verses entitled 'Y Cynauaf mawr diweddaf' subscribed 'D. T. a'i cant allan o'r Saesneg ar ddymuniad John Jones Llandwrog Medi 10d 1804 (cf. Dafydd Thomas (Dafydd Ddû Eryri), Corph y Gaingc (Caernarfon, 1834), pp. 323-4), and 'Englynion newyddion i Long newydd o Gaernarfon yr hon a elwir Valiant'. A volume containing about ninety letters, 1840-63, from the Reverend Morris Williams ('Nicander'), writing from Bangor, Amlwch and Llanrhyddlad, to Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), with a draft copy of one letter, 1850, from 'Eben Fardd' to 'Nicander'. A few of the letters have been printed in Adgof Uwch Ahghof. Also in the volume are a letter, 1865, from 'Nicander' to an unnamed correspondent and two letters, 1868, one incomplete, from 'Nicander' to [Richard Roberts] 'Bardd Treflys'. At the end of the volume are three letters, 1862, from Eunice Jones (Liverpool), daughter of Peter Jones ('Pedr Fardd'), writing from Clifton and Llanrhyddlad Rectory, to 'Eben Fardd' (enquiring about the connection between her father's family on his mother's side and the Wynnes of Glyn Llifon; 'englynion' by 'Pedr Fardd'). Pasted into the volume near the beginning is a cutting containing a letter, 1849, from M. Williams, ['Nicander'], Amlwch to John James ('Ioan Meirion'); there is also a loose cutting of a photograph of 'Nicander'.
