Executive committee minutes

The series comprises mainly typed minutes of meetings of the executive committee, discussing issues such as afforestation, the designation of special areas of Wales as national parks, national park administration, road and bridge schemes, preservation of historic buildings, planning regulations, housing and industrial developments, coastal development, siting of radio and television stations, construction of power stations and electricity lines, reservoir and hydro-electric schemes, nuclear energy, pollution, protection of wildlife and natural habitats. Recurrent high profile issues include Trawsfynydd nuclear power station, 1954-1965, 1975, Llyn Brianne, 1966-1969, 1973-1976, the Rio Tinto Zinc Corporation, 1966-1971, pumped water storage schemes at Dinorwic (Dinorwig), 1971-1973, 1976-1981, and the Severn Barrage, 1981-1989. The minutes include circulars concerning CPRW constitution and policy, annual events, conferences and representation on other bodies such as the National Trust and Nature Conservancy Council.

The file consists of a card index for properties in Wales owned by the National Trust, with some entries accompanied by additional notes covering the history and architecture of ancient monuments and other buildings, industrial sites, geology, natural history, scenery, visitor access, walks, development of NT sites, bibliographical and reference notes, pamphlets and maps.

Professional letters

The series comprises letters and enclosures relating to the creation and preservation of plant and wildlife habitats from various organisations, specifically the National Trust, regarding the possible acquisition of a traditional hay meadow at Penybont, Powys, The West Wales Naturalists' Trust, mainly in connection with an appeal to to save the habitat of wild orchids, and the Wildfowl Trust, in a letter written by Peter Scott, concerning the possible creation of a wildfowl reserve on the Dovey estuary
