Trespass and ejectment from Lodge Park

Original bundle of papers in an action of trespass and ejectment from a park called Bodvage Park and a messuage called The Lodge, both in the parish of Llangynfelyn, Cardiganshire, 1662-1679, between William Pleasted, plaintiff, and Sir Thomas Pryse [of Gogerddan], defendant, heard at Hereford assizes, which premises were leased by Sir Richard Pryse, the defendant's brother, to William Sumner of Pollicott, Buckinghamshire, in 1661 as security for £200 and which were subsequently leased by Henry Sumner of Dinton, Buckinghamshire, William Sumner's son, to the plaintiff in Jan. 1678. The file contains receipts, briefs, a letter from Thomas Harborne of Aylesbury, 1669, and particulars of documents used in the trial, 1679.

They comprise a conveyance by Thomas Pryse the elder to his daughter Elizabeth of Tythin Dolglessing and Pwll yr Yscawen in Faenor, Llanbadarn Fawr, for her maintenance, 1663; a settlement by Sir Thomas Pryse on Dame Elizabeth, widow of Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, then wife of John Herbert, by order of a decree of the Court of Chancery, of parts of the Gogerddan estate in and near Aberystwyth, but excluding the mansion, 1677; a settlement by Vincent Corbett of Ynysmaengwyn and other trustees, for Edward Pryse in accordance with the will of Sir Thomas Pryse of Bodfage Park [Lodge Park, p. Llangynfelyn], following the death of his nephew and heir, Carbery Pryse, 1695; an agreement by Edward Pryse for the financial compensation of Hester Scawen of Llanbadarn Fawr and her daughters, upon renunciation of their interest in the personal estate of Sir Carbery Pryse, deceased, including annuities deriving from his shares in the mines of Bwlch Hir and Esgair Hir, 1695/6., and a declaration of trust by Nicholas Haywood of London to John Oldbury and Thomas Phipps, which may be relevant, 1695.

Title deeds of houses and lands in the village and parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, 1664-1786. Properties include a messuage in Parsel Uchaf yn y Faenor, and Dol y Velin, quitclaimed by Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan to Thomas Rees, with proviso for maintenance of the watercourse supplying Melin y Parson, 1667; Dole Glessin, conveyed by Henry Sumner of Dinton, Buckinghamshire, to Elizabeth Pryse, 1669; and Y Llyast Yn Y Ddisgwylfa, and Llyast Y Garn Wen lying in Llannerch Goch, quitclaimed to Richard Pryse by Mary vch David of p. Llangynfelyn, widow of Humphrey Harry, 1671/2. Other items comprise the wills of John Lewis the younger of Glasgrug, proved 1664, and Charles Lloyd of Lovesgrove, proved 1729; the pre-nuptial agreement of James Lewis of Glasgrug and Mary Lloyd, daughter of Grace Lloyd of Crynfryn, 1677; and leases by Margaret Pryse of Woodstock, of Llain Arthur, Dorglwyd, and Tynewydd together with a malthouse, 1780-1786.
