Liverpool Corporation water supply petition and Act

Papers relating to the scheme by Liverpool Corporation to obtain a water supply from the rivers Vyrnwy, Marchnant and Conwy in Montgomeryshire, and the effect of the scheme on the estates of Llwydiarth and Llanforda belonging to Sir Watkin Williams Wynn of Wynnstay, 1880-1893. They comprise a petition against the bill, amendments to the Act of Parliament, together with relevant maps and correspondence.

Settled Land Acts estate improvement applications

Papers relating to applications between 1887 and 1905 by Sir Herbert Lloyd Watkin Williams Wynn, Lady Louise Alexandra Williams Wynn and the trustees of the Wynnstay settlement of 1884, under the provisions of the Settled Land Acts, 1882-1890, for improvements on the Glan-llyn estate in the parish of Llanuwchllyn, Merioneth, Llwynymaen and Llanforda near Oswestry, Salop, the Llangedwyn estate in Llansilin, Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Denbighshire, the Llanbryn-mair and Cyfeiliog estate, Montgomeryshire, and parts of the main Wynnstay estate in Bangor Is-coed and Wrexham. Typically the file contents comprise official application forms for the approval by the Board of Agriculture of a surveyor or engineer nominated by the Wynnstay trustees, orders issued by the High Court of Justice Chancery Division, building estimates, specifications, surveyors’ reports and certificates, accounts, agents’ receipts and relevant correspondence. Some files contain plans and elevations.

Mining and quarrying papers

Papers relating to the mining of lead, coal and slate on parts of the Wynnstay estate, at Plas Issa Colliery, Denbighshire, 1814-1827, Cafartha, Van, Snowbrook, etc. lead mines, Montgomeryshire, (Watermark 1853)-1886, Trefonnen Colliery, Oswestry, 1873-1883, and various quarries in Montgomeryshire and Caernarfonshire, 1882-1886.

Anglesey title deeds,

Sparse series of deeds for properties on Anglesey, which appear to have belonged to the estates of Chwaen and Glasinfryn. The files describe properties in Beaumaris, Penmynydd and Pentraeth, 1595-1612; Llanbadrig and Llandysilio, 1605; Llanddona, 1594; Llan-faes, 1527; Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, 1594-1595; Llanfair-yn-Neubwll and Treflesg, 1577-1603; Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog and Llanidan, Berw estate, 1656-1672; Llangoed and Penmon, 1509, 1580-1609; Llangwyllog, 1609; Llanrhuddlad, 1608; Llantrisant, 1598-1641; Newborough, 1607; Penmon Rectory and Millne Hely, 1642; and miscellaneous deeds, 1636.

Aber title deeds,

Title deeds and associated bonds for properties in the township of Bodsilin in the parish of Aber, namely Tythyn Pen y Bont, 1596-1614, Kay Madog, Kay Pen y Lan, etc., and Kay Madog Issa, 1596-1613, and Llwyn Eden, 1613-1614, purchased by Richard Gwynne of Bangor.

Title deeds for properties in the parish of Llanfair-is-gaer, namely Bach y Dinas or Tythyn y Dinas in the township of Botandreg, 1517, 1598-1603; miscellaneous properties in Llanfair, 1583-1607; Cae Glas, Drill yr Odyn, Y Berllan Newydd, etc. in Bonyrafallen, Llanfair Prysgol and Llannerch y Nestrig in Llanfair-is-gaer and Llan-rug, 1585-1620; and Cae yn y Krug and Cae Banadl, 1586-1612.

Miscellaneous Caernarfonshire deeds,

Miscellaneous deeds and documents relating to the Earl of Arundel’s lands in Wales [tentatively placed here], the estates of Pentyrch and Glanyrafon, and the Caernarfonshire estate of Sir Richard Wynn, 1342, 1538, 1612-1639, 1771; deeds for properties in Llangian, Llaniestyn, Edern, etc., 1559-1615; and purchase deeds for a portion of the Gwydir estate, acquired by Sir John Wynn of Watstay, 1680-1681.

Bangor and Maenol Bangor title deeds ,

Loose deeds and original tied bundles relating mainly to properties purchased by Richard Gwynne from William and Piers Gruffith of Penrhyn, together with others acquired by Sir John Wynn and Moris Wynn of Gwydir. Title deeds relating mainly to properties acquired by Sir John Wynn of Gwydir, his brother Richard Gwynne and Edward Williams, whose widow Grace married Richard Gwynne in 1602, situated in the townships of Penfro, Castell, Glyn and Gronant, often combining more than one of these townships and overlapping the parish boundaries of Caerhun, Llanbedrycennin and Llangelynnin. Title deeds concerning properties in the parish of Clynnog, Caernarfonshire, namely Tythyn y Kyme, Clynnog mills, Tythyn Jonet Gruffith and Tythyn Agnes, acquired by Richard Gwynne, 1518-1616, 1689; a messuage and lands in Brynbedde, 1519-1562; miscellaneous properties, 1539, 1600-1616; and Kay Davyd Lloyd, Kay Rhig and Kay yn y Serch, 1551-1570. Several of the deeds involve John ap David ap Howell ap Eignion and his son Maurice.

Title deeds relating to a tenement and orchard outside the town walls of Conwy, 1493-1585, and to the rectory and tithes of Conwy, 1610.

Title deeds for properties in the town of Caernarfon, Treflan and the parish of Llanbeblig acquired through purchase and lease by Sir John Wynn of Gwydir and his father Maurice Wynn, namely Scasbrickes Place and Lyncells Lands, Caernarfon, 1482-1614; Kay Havod Tudur, Kay Kaled, an enclosed ‘ffrith’, mansion house and lands in Treflan, 1519-1605; Tuthin Thomas Irland in Pennygelly, Caernarfon, 1572-1577; miscellaneous properties in Caernarfon, 1578-1674; a house adjacent to Scasbrickes Place, 1617; and miscellaneous properties in Treflan, 1598, 1674.

Abergele title deeds,

Title deeds relating to properties in the town of Abergele, 1359-1512; the commote of Is Dulas, 1395-1473; and in the township of Hendregyda in the parish of Abergele, acquired by the Holand family and by Edward Williams of Castell, [1422x1461], 1499-1600.

Eglwys-bach title deeds,

Title deeds for properties in the parish of Eglwys-bach, on the borders of Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire, acquired by Maurice Wynn of Crogen and Sir John Wynn of Watstay, with the exception of the last one, purchased by Sir Watkin Williams Wynn in 1815. The files refer to Plas yn y Dyffryn, Tyddyn y Werne and Ty yn y Llan in Erethlyn and Esgorebrill, 1598-1668; Tyddyn yr Henblas and Tyddyn Bach in Erethlyn and Bodnant, 1636-1685; Kae’r Vaban and other properties in Maenan assigned to Maurice Wynn, 1650-1671; Maenan and Llansanffraid wills, 1655-1665; Caye y Llan and Tythyn y Kay Mawr in Erethlyn, 1656-1708; the estate of Robert Ellis in Eglwys-bach, 1697, and Wern Dew in Eglwys-bach, 1812-1815.
