Enwau Lleoedd Sir Gaernarfon,

A volume in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing material similar to, but not identical with, that published in Enwau Lleoedd Sir Gaernarfon : eu hystyr a'u hanes ..... Casgledig gan J. Jones (Myrddin Fardd) (Caernarfon, [1913]). Much of the writing has been crossed out but the notes can still be read. The volume also contains a number of press cuttings and some additional material, including a section on Enlli (Bardsey) place-names (pp. 91-2).

A scrap-book compiled by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing material relating to Caernarvonshire poets and literary men, some of it included in Enwogion Sir Gaernarfon. One or two pages are wanting (133-4, 203-4). There is a list of contents at the beginning of the volume. Loose items include a letter, 1907, from 'Rhab' [John Daniel, ('Rhabanion')], Rheithordy Llandudwen, Ger Pwllheli to [ ] (John Owen's epigrams), and a note, undated, from 'Owain Môn' to 'Myrddin Fardd'. Letter 'V' on the spine.

A composite volume mainly in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing the names of some Caernarvonshire sheriffs arranged under houses in Llŷn and Eifionydd ('Y Tylwythau o ba rai y penodwyd Siryddion Sir Gaernarfon o Leyn ac Eifionydd'), pedigrees of various Llŷn families (Rhiw, Cefnamwlch, Saethon, Trygarn, Cefnllanfair and Madryn), notes on heraldry ('Arfau Bonedd'), more pedigrees (Nanhoron, Saethon, with a leaf from an older manuscript concerning Saython [sic]), short extracts from Caernarvonshire pedigrees concerning clergymen, etc., 'Traethawd byr, y'nghyd âg adfyfyriadau, ar Ach Iesu Grist .... wedi ei gyfieithu o Ffrangaeg Abb Giraudeau, a chwanegu atto, gan y Parchedig Dr. A. Clarke; a'i droi i'r Gymraeg gan T. Roberts' (printed extract incomplete), 'Arfau Bonedd' (Llŷn families), and a transcript of 'The Pedigree and Genealogy of the Ancient and Worshipfull Family of Jones of Llwyn Onn in the Parish of Wrexham and County of Denbigh collected out of the Books of Owen Salusbury of Rug Esqr. and other Authentick Genealogists by John Salusbury De Erbistock Anno Domini 1675'. Loose in the volume are a letter, ?1903, from the Reverend Evan Evans, Llansadwrn Rectory, Anglesey to 'Myrddin [Fardd'] (the name of a subscriber for the addressee's book, genealogical queries), and holograph verses by [Ebenezer Thomas] 'Eben Fardd' beginning 'Fenywod hawddgar! dowch o'n plaid'. The first section of the manuscript is marked 'Copy No 30'.

Beddargraffiadau Arfon,

A volume in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), Llanystumdwy containing transcripts, with annotations and translations, of memorial inscriptions from Caernarvon-shire. Among the sources quoted by the scribe are the parish churches or churchyards of Llannor, Abererch, Llandegwning, Rhiw, Criccieth, Llanbedrog and Llangian. At the beginning of the volume is a paste down of a leaf from Y Gwladgarwr, April 1837, containing a biography of Sir John Owen of Clenennau and a transcript of his memorial inscription from Penmorfa church.

A volume in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing an armorial of landed families of Llŷn and Eifionnydd. The sources quoted by the compiler include printed publications and inscriptions from the parish churchyards of Abererch, Llanor, Penmorfa, Rhiw, Llandegwning, Bryncroes and Llaniestyn.

Arfau Bonedd,

A volume described on the title-page as 'Arfau Bonedd. John Jones Myrddin Fardd Llanystumdwy 1874' containing the coats of arms of various persons and families mainly from Llŷn and Eifionydd, Caernarfonshire, many of them illustrated in colour, others in the form of bookplates. The sources include tombstones and other monuments and the volume is in part complementary to Gleanings from God's Acre (Pwllheli, 1903). There are also a few loose papers, chiefly bookplates, and a letter, year not given, to 'Myrddin Fardd' from (Col.) John (?) F. Owen, Penmaen, Pwllheli (a genealogical query). A list of contents has been compiled and inserted with the manuscript.

Legal precedents; catalogue of deeds,

A volume originally used by J. H. Davies to record some late nineteenth and early twentieth century legal precedents, including an opinion, 3 February [19]05, on the claim for payment of chief rents by freeholders 'in and about' Dinas Mawddwy. Beginning at the end of the volume is a catalogue compiled by Annie J. Ellis, Thomas Iorwerth Ellis and J. H. Davies, c. 1914, of bundles of deeds and documents numbered 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 (Watkins of Moelcerni, Cardiganshire) and dated 1549-1848 in the Cwrtmawr collection of deeds (now in the National Library of Wales and described in detail in a typewritten catalogue (1956)).

An interleaved copy of Edward Welchman, XXXIX Articuli Ecclesiae Anglicanae, textibus sacrae scripturae ... confirmati ..., editio quinta (Oxonii : e Theatro Sheldoniano, 1730). On the blank leaves are written Biblical passages referred to in the margins of the printed work. Loose inside is an abstract [by J. A. Bradney, according to a note in pencil by T. I. Ellis] of the will of John Edwards of Tredonyke, Monmouthshire, clerk, proved 8 January 1657/8 (P.C.C. Wotton 42).

Cylchgronau yn llyfrgell Cwrtmawr,

A volume containing a list of holdings of Welsh periodicals and some periodicals of Welsh interest in the Cwrtmawr Library. The entries have been compiled largely by J. H. Davies but some of the titles are in the hand of T. I. Ellis.

Pregethau John Whitaker,

A volume of holograph translations by David Ellis (1736-95), curate of Amlwch and subsequently vicar of Cricieth, of eleven sermons entitled 'Pregethau ar Angau Barn Nef ac Uffern', i.e. A Course of Sermons upon Death, Judgement, Heaven, and Hell (London, 1783) by John Whitaker, B.D., rector of Ruan-Lanyhorn, Cornwall. The translations were completed on 26 July 1784 and the Welsh sermons were preached at Amlwch, 1784, and at Cricieth, 1790-1.

The volume was bound by Lewis Edward for Lewis David in 1762. The first thirty pages are entitled 'the compleat horseman And exbert farrier'. The poetry appears to have been transcribed c. 1791-5, possibly by Peter Bailey Williams, from other manuscripts (mention is made of copying from manuscripts in the hand of Dd. Ellis, Person Crickaeth, Evan Evans, Prydydd Hir, and Lewis Morris). The text is imperfect in places, and there are some later additions, including an English translation by Peter B. Williams of 'Marwnad Lleucu Llwyd' by Llywelyn Goch ap Meurig hên and 'englynion' copied by P. B. W[illiams] in Lampeter churchyard, August 1817. Several folios have been removed at the end of the volume but the pagination is continuous.
