A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. Preceding the text is a progressive list ('Tabl') of the 'carolau', 'cerddi', and 'cywyddau' contained in the volume. That the entire volume is based on a variety of sources is shown by the last entry inserted by the scribe: 'Yr ychydig o hen bethau hyn, a godais I allan o hen Lyfrau pan oeddwn mewn oriau Segur, rhag I Colli hwynt ...'. Inside the lower cover are printed 'Englynion Croesawiad Sior IV. 'Trwy Gymru' by [Hugh Jones] ('H. Erfyl'). There are a few minor entries in the hand of Mary Richards.

A volume of poetry transcribed by Lewis Owen [Tyddyn y garreg, Dolgellau, Merioneth] during the last quarter of the seventeenth century. It contains 'cywyddau', 'englynion', 'penillion', 'carolau', etc. by Lewis Owen, Rowland Owen, John Vaughan, William Phylyp, Dafydd Nanmor, Robin Du o fôn, John Owen, Owen Gwynedd, Sion Tydder, Bedo Brwynllysg, Jon. Phylip [Siôn Phylip], Hugh Lloyd Cynddel [recte Cynfal], Morys Dwyferch [recte Dwyfech], Dafydd ap Ifan ap Owen, Sion Dafydd Trefor [Syr Dafydd Trefor], John Brwynog, Thomas Pris [Plas Iolyn], Rowland Prys, John Davies ['Siôn Dafydd Las'], Sr. Reese, Sion Parry, Hugh Morris, Oliver Roger, Ellis Wynn, William Hu[m]ffr[eys], Robert Owen and [? Dafydd] Cadwaladr, together with anonymous poems and fragments. At the end of the volume are a leaflet entitled 'Dirgelwch i'r Rhodianwr ar y Sabbath', published by 'Cymdeithas y Traethodau Crefyddol' [Religious Tracts Society] (No. 17) (mounted on the blank leaf of a letter addressed to the Revd. Mr [Thomas] Richards, Darowen), and 'englynion' by Sion Tudur (in the hand of Mary Richards [Darowen]) and Wa[l]ter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'].

An imperfect manuscript of poetry and prose compiled by Morrys Oliver, c. 2 May 1685. The poems comprise 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and verses in free metres by Sion Tudur, Rhys Cadwalader, Thomas Lloyd Iangof ('o Penmaen'), Thomas Price ('o blas Iolun'), Edward Morris ('or Perthi Llwydion') and Hugh Llwyd Cynfel, and anonymous poems and fragments. The prose items include 'areithiau' ('Annerch lythur ne araith', etc.) and 'Iachau'r [Achau'r] Cwrw'. There is an inscription in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen.

A minute book of the Cymmrodorion Society in Powys (established 6 October 1819), 1819-1820, together with a list of members, 1819-1822. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen, and, to a lesser extent, by Thomas R. Williams, Bryn Tanad, Llanerfyl, to record transcripts of a list of British kings to George III ('Tabl o holl Frenhinodd Prydain or dechreiad Cyntaf hyd ein Brenin George y IIII) from the Almanac of Thomas Jones, Shrewsbury, 1709; poetry in strict and free metres by E[dward] J[ones] (Periglor Caer Einion) (1875), [Hugh Parry] (Cefni) (Utica, N.Y.) (1872), [Morris Jones] (Meurig Idris), John Blackwell [Alun], [Robert Parry] (Robin Ddu [Eryri]), John Edwar[d] Davies (New York, a native of Llan Erful), etc.; englynion submitted for competition at the Cymmrodorion Society in Powys eisteddfod at Wrexham, 1820, by W. A notebook partly in the hand of Mary Richards containing miscellaneous material e.g. Welsh and English verses, one series being by 'R[ichard] Richards Vicar Meifod', 1820; medical recipes; 'A List of Subscribers towards paying Rents for Rooms to keep a Charity School in the Parish of Berriew in 1819 -1820' (blank); and 'Enwau y rhai a fu yn ym weled a Theulu P. T. Richard Darowen pan ddaethant o Feifod i Lan Erful'.

A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R. Miscellaneous letters and papers, including a funeral sermon preached the next Sunday after the internment (26 July 1762) of Arthur Vaughan of Tredderwen [Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire]; a letter from W[illia]m Humphreys [?St Asaph] to the Reverend [Thomas] Richards, Darowen, 1811 (enclosing probate copy of the will of Anne Tibbot of Cegir, widow); an account (?early nineteenth century) relating to (?) a clothing club in Montgomeryshire; a list, dated Cardigan 23 October 1821, of the contents of a box containing a consignment of religious books sent to the Reverend Richard Richards, Caerwys, Flintshire; a letter from [?Reverend] W. Williams written at Llansilin Vicarage, 26 June 1823, to the Reverend D[avid] Richards, vicar of Llansilin (good wishes on addressee's marriage, applications for livings, invitation to stay at N: Chapel); an account of the subscriptions to the Bible Society in the townships of Cynhinfa and Gwenynog Isaf, parish of Llangynyw, Montgomeryshire, 1841; a letter (draft or copy) written by [? A volume, comprising mainly harp tunes in various hands, at one time belonging to Mary Richards of Darowen and her father, and probably compiled by them. The last item in the volume is in letter form, dated 14 January [18]60, and addressed to Mary Richards.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W.
