Lloyd family of Llwydiarth memoranda

A seventeenth-century manuscript containing memoranda relating to the Lloyd family of Llwydiarth, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey, and poems and prose extracts in Welsh, English and Latin. Some of the memorande are ascribed to David Lloyd (1576-1651) of Llwydiarth, his son Montague Lloyd (b. 1612), and Montague's children Hugh Lloyd (1649-1674) and Jane Lloyd (b. 1653). The Welsh poems include cywyddau, englynion, dyriau and ballads by John Gruffydd, Hugh Bulkley'r Gwydd, Robert Thomas, Evan Thomas, John Tuder and Ficker Llanymddyfri; one of the ballads commemorates the victory of the Dutch over the Spaniards in the Battle of the Downs, 1639 (ff. 35-36 verso). Several of the poems were transcribed by Hugh Lloyd in 1670.

Welsh and English poetry

A seventeenth-century manuscript in several hands, containing englynion, cywyddau, carolau, dyriau and other poems in free metre in Welsh and English. The following are some of the poets represented: Tudur Aled, Sion Tuder, Gytto'r Glyn, John Brwynog, Thomas Powel, Robert ap Hugh Delyniawr, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh and John Kenricke, Syr Hugh David o Sir Henford, Syr Hugh Roberts, Robin Ddu and Ficker Llan ddyfri. Among the poems in free are 'Ymddiddanen rhwng Mr. John Gruffyth a Richard Boulkley' (ff. 45-46 verso), a second poem on a similar theme (ff. 19 verso-20), published as 'Ymddiddan rhwng Mr. John Griffith, Llanddyfnan, a'i ewythr Mr. Bwlclai, yn 1647' in Hen Gerddi Gwleidyddol 1588-1660, Cymdeithas Llen Cymru 2 (Cardiff, 1901), pp. 16-18; and a copy of 'Karol y wraig o ganan' (ff. 80-81 verso) which differs slightly from that published in Casgliad o Hanes-Gerddi Cymraeg, Cymdeithas Llen Cymru 4 (Cardiff, 1903), pp. 11-15.

Accounts and poetry

A seventeenth-century merchant's account-book for miscellaneous groceries and draperies supplied to persons mainly in Denbighshire, 1662-1687 (pp. 1-76). The remainder of the volume contains copies of Welsh poems in strict and free metres, a copy of Areth Wgon, and a few recipes (pp. 77-190, 193-194). The majority of the poems are in free metres, and among a large number of authors who are represented the following have several poems to their names: Robert Klidro and Sion Prys Caerddynen. A table of contents is on pp. 173-174.

Mae'r casgliad yn cynnwys papurau sy'n adlewyrchu gwahanol weithgareddau'r Academi yn ogystal â gweithgaredd aelodau o staff cyflogedig a swyddogion gwirfoddol y gymdeithas. Mae'n adlewyrchu y trefniant cwbl wirfoddol oedd yn bodoli rhwng 1960 a 1977, cyfraniad staff cyflogedig yn y cyfnod ers derbyn nawdd Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ym 1977, a'r ychwanegu a fu at weithgaredd y gymdeithas wrth greu Adran Saesneg ym 1968. Mae papurau'r Adran Gymraeg yn adlewyrchu'r cyfan o weithgaredd yr Academi hyd at sefydlu'r Adran Saesneg. O hynny ymlaen ymranna'n Adran Gymraeg, Adran Saesneg a Gweinyddiaeth Ganolog. Cynnwys ohebiaeth gyffredinol a phapurau gweinyddol cyffredinol megis cofnodion pwyllgorau, ymgyrchoedd aelodaeth, deunydd yn ymwneud â'i gwahanol gyhoeddiadau a'i amrywiol weithgareddau. Derbyniwyd 13 bocs mawr o gofysgrifau ym mis Gorffennaf 2013 a 2 focs mawr mis Hydref 2013. Nid yw'r papurau hyn wedi eu catalogio eto. = The collection consists of papers which reflect the various activities of the Academi as well as the activities of paid officials and voluntary members. They reflect the voluntary arrangement that existed between 1959 and 1977, the expansion of activities which followed the formation of the English Language Section in 1968 and the contribution made by paid staff in the period after the award of a Welsh Arts Council Grant in 1977. The papers of the Welsh Language Section reflect the whole activities of the Academi up to the formation of the English Language Section. From then on, the papers are split into those of the Central Administration, the Welsh Language Section and the English Language Section. The collection includes general correspondence, administrative papers such as committee minutes, membership details and material relating to various publications, events and activities. Thirteen large boxes of records were received July 2013 and a further 2 large boxes in October 2013. These groups remains uncatalogued.
