Llansilin collection

The collection comprises property in p's Llansilin, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llangadwaladr, Llansaffraid Glyn Ceiriog, co. Denb. Collectors: Samuel Lovatt, 1809-1837, David Jones, 1838, John Croxon, 1839-1851, Nathan Burlinson, 1851-1860. After 1860, property in p's Llansilin, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, will be found in R116/3a and R117/2a (being rentals of estates in Shropshire and co. Denb. of which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn is seised in fee simple), then in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents. Property in p. Llangedwyn collection

The Llangedwyn collection comprises property in p. Llangedwyn, co. Denb., p. Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, cos Mont. and Denb., and in p's Pennant, Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Llangynog, Llanfyllin, Meifod, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Llanfechain and Llandrinio, co. Mont. Collectors: Samuel Lovatt, 1809-1837, David Jones, 1838 and 1839-1857 (part of the estate only), John Croxon, 1839-1851 (part of the estate only), Nathan Burlinson, 1852-1860 (part of the estate only), Joseph Owen Jones, 1857-1861 (part of the estate only). From R94 (1839) onwards, details regarding this collection will be found in two different places in each volume: the first number given contains that part of the estate situated in co. Denb., and the second number contains that part of the estate situated in co. Mont. After R116/2e (1861), property in p's Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Pennant, Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Llanfyllin, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, will be found in one or more of the following rentals, before they appear together once again in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents: R116/3d and R117/2c (being settled estates in cos Denb. and Mont.), and R116/3a and R117/2a (being estates of which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn is seised in fee simple). Llwydiarth estate comprises property in p's Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa (t's Llwydiarth, Fach-wen, Cadwnfa, Garth Uchaf, Cefncleisiog, Rhiwlas, Halfen, Dolwar, Farchwel, Nantycyndy, Llaethbwlch), Llangadfan (t's Cyffin, Bryngwaeddan, Llangadfan, Blowty, Moelfeliarth), Llanfair Caereinion (t's Gwenynog, Llanfair, Pen-tyrch, Dol-ged, Llanloddian Isaf and Uchaf, Rhiwhiriarth, Rhosaflo, Peniarth, Bryn-glas, Brynelen), Llangynyw (t's Cynhinfa, Gwenynog), Llanerfyl (t's Cefn-llys-isaf and Cefn-llys-uchaf, Cnewyll, Craen, Coetalog), Manafon (t. Dwyriw), Llanwyddelan (t. Treganol), Garthbeibio, Llanwddyn, Llanllugan and Welshpool, all in co. Mont. Llanfair Caereinion tithes are included to R70/7 (1815); for Llanfair Caereinion tithes, 1815-1861, see collection entitled Llanfair Caereinion Tithes. Chief rents for p's Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa (t's Rhiwlas, Dolwar, Cadwnfa), Llanwddyn (t. Garthbwlch) and Llansanffraid [?-ym-Mechain], co. Mont., are included from R99 to R116 (1844-1861). Manor of Cyfeiliog chief rents

The collection comprises property in p's Penegoes, Llanwrin, Cemais, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair and Machynlleth (including t's Isygarreg and Uwchygarreg), all in co. Mont. Most of the rents were collected at Michaelmas; the date of collection is not always given. Collectors: J. Davies, 1808-1816, Samuel Hughes, 1817-1833, David Jones, 1834-1856, Joseph Owen Jones, 1856-1860, Nathan Burlinson, 1861, Thomas Adey Cox, 1862, William Jones, 1863-1871, Owen Hughes, 1871-1879. Manor of Cyfeiliog

Manor of Cyfeiliog comprises (i) Mathafarn estate, property in p's Llanwrin, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair, Machynlleth, Penegoes and Cemais, co. Mont.; (ii) Rhiwsaeson estate, comprising property in p. Llanbryn-mair, co. Mont.; (iii) Tirymynech estate, comprising property in p's Penegoes, Machynlleth, Llanbryn-mair, Cemais, Llanwrin and Darowen, co. Mont. L1256 contains a rental, 1831, of cottages in the Manor of Cyfeiliog, including in p's Llanbryn-mair, [t. Tirymynech,] Cemais, Llanwrin, Darowen, Machynlleth and Penegoes, co. Mont. Property in p. Mallwyd, co. Mer., taken from the Glan-llyn agency, are contained in most volumes from R93 (1838) onwards. Collectors: Rev. John Davies, 1809-1816, Samuel Hughes, 1816-1834, David Jones, 1835-1857, Joseph Owen Jones, 1857-1861. After 1861, the properties (except for property in p. Mallwyd) will be found in R117/2c (being a rental of settled estates in cos Denb. and Mont.), then in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents. Arwystli chief rents

Property on the Berthlwyd estate (p's Llanidloes and Llandinam), and in p's Penystrywaid, Llandinam, Carno, Llanwnnog, Trefeglwys, Llanidloes and Llangurig, all in co. Mont. Also cottage rents in p's Llanwnnog, Trefeglwys, Llandinam and Penystrywaid up to 1828 (see also the Arwystli collection). Collectors: From 1808, the same as the Arwystli collection [William Jones, 1808-1816, William Johnes, 1817-1836, David Jones, 1837-1856, Joseph Owen Jones, 1856-1860, Nathan Burlinson, 1861, Thomas Adey Cox, 1862, William Jones, 1863-1871, Owen Hughes 1871]. Arwystli collection

Containing farm rentals, cottage rentals, tithes, etc., concerning property in p's Llanidloes, Trefeglwys, Carno, Llanwnnog, Mochdre, Montgomery and Llangurig, co. Mont. RA24 contains a copy of the Llangurig tithe apportionment, 1843. With regard to the dates, R64/1 and R64/3, for example, would contain the Arwystli rental for the year 1808 (not necessarily collected in 1808). Collectors: William Jones, 1808-1816, William Johnes, 1817-1836, David Jones, 1837-1856, Joseph Owen Jones, 1856-1860, Nathan Burlinson, 1861, Thomas Adey Cox, 1862, William Jones, 1863-1871, and Owen Hughes, 1871. From 1861 onwards, only tithe rent charges (as in R116/2g) for p's Trefeglwys, Llanidloes and Llangurig, together with p. Llanbryn-mair, co. Mont., are contained in this series of rentals (see also the series of Tithe, Chief and Fee Farm Rentals described elsewhere in this catalogue). Details of other rents in p's Trefeglwys, Llanidloes and Llangurig (as in R116/2f) will be found in R117/2c, then in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents. Property in Carno and Llanwnnog will be found in R117/2c (being a rental of settled estates in cos Denb. and Mont.), then in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents. Chirk Castle estate

Part of the Chirk Castle estate purchased at Lady Day 1805, consisting of property in Llansilin, Llangedwyn and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, co. Denb. Collector: Samuel Lovatt. After 1809, the collection seems to be included with the Llansilin collection.

Arwystli farm rents

Property in p's Llanidloes, Trefeglwys, Carno, Llanwnnog, Mochdre and Montgomery, co. Mont. Collector: William Jones, 1805-1808.

Estate of John Mostyn

The estate of John Mostyn, esq., in cos Mer., and Denb., whereof Mr Francis Chambre is appointed receiver in pursuance of an order of the Court of Chancery, made 6 Feb. 1777, in a cause where Sir Rowland Hill, bart, and Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, bart (on behalf of themselves and the rest of the creditors of the said John Mostyn who should come in and contribute to that suit) are plaintiffs, and John Mostyn and Robert Wynne, esq's, are defendants. R52/4a-e (1788) contains only property in p. Gwyddelwern, co. Mer., in p's Derwen, Gyffylliog, Henllan, Ruthin, Denbigh and Llanrhaeadr [-yng-Nghinmeirch], co. Denb., and p. Hawarden, co. Flint. From R58/2 onwards, the estate of the late John Mostyn, in mortgage to Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, consists of property in p's Gyffylliog, Denbigh and Llanrhaeadr [-yng-Nghinmeirch] only. Tithe rentals, co. Mont.

Tithe rents in p. Llangurig (t's Cefn (yr) hafodau, Glyngynwydd, Glynhafren, Glynbrochan, Llanifyny, Llaniwaered), p. Llanidloes (t's Cilmachallt, Brithdir, Treflyn), p. Trefeglwys (t's Esgeiredd, Glyntrefnant, Dolgwden, Faerdref), and p. Llanfair Caereinion (t's Rhosaflo, Brynelen, Cil-yr-ych, Rhiwhiriarth, Llanloddian, Bryn-glas, Dol-ged, Llanfair, Gwenynog and Pen-tyrch), all in co. Mont. With regard to the dates in this series, R47/3, for example, would contain a rental for the year 1779 (not necessarily collected in 1779). Collectors: Edward Devereux 1780, 1783-4. R51/3 (1787) contains a rental of Llanfair Caereinion tithe corn for 1787, while the remaining rentals only contain the tithes for p's Llangurig, Llanidloes and Trefeglwys. After R63/16 (1807), the tithes for p's Llangurig, Llanidloes and Trefeglwys are contained in the Arwystli collection, while rentals of p. Llanfair Caereinion tithes are contained in a separate collection.

Collection V: Maenan Lordship and other properties; Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B; Glasinfryn and Gwydir estates

Collection V comprises the following properties: (i) Maenan lordship, co. Caern, and property in p's Eglwys-bach, Llangernyw, Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, Betws Abergele, Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (ii) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B, comprising property in p's Dwygyfylchi, Llanfair-fechan, Llanberis, Penmorfa, Beddgelert, Dolwyddelan, Capel Curig, Penmachno; (iii) Glasinfryn and Gwydir Estates, comprising properties in p's Conwy (t. Y Gyffin), Clynnog, Llanberis, [Waun-fawr formerly Llanbeblig] (t. Treflan), Pwllheli, Llanfair-is-gaer, Llanrug, Bangor, and Caernarfon town, all co. Caern, and in p. Llysfaen, co. Denb. Collectors: Francis Chambre, 1772-1773, William Griffith, 1774, 1776-1777 and 1780-1801, Thomas Jones, 1775, 1778-1779, and William Williams 1802-1807. Mont.; (ii) Rhiwsaeson estate, comprising property in p's Llanbryn-mair, Darowen and Llanwrin, co. Mont.;. (Iii) Tirymynych estate, comprising property in p's Penegoes, Machynlleth, Llanbryn-mair, Cemais and Llanwrin, co. Mont. Collectors: Rice Hughes, 1772, Francis Chambre, 1773-1790, and Rev. Collection IV

From 1783 onwards, Collection IV is divided into three as follows: (1) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward A and B, Denbighshire; Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B, Denbighshire; Lordship of Cynllaith Owain chief rents; and Llwydiarth estate (Llangedwyn collection); (2) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward A, Shropshire; and (3) Manor of Much Wenlock.

Collection III comprises the following: (i) Llwydiarth estate (Llanfihangel collection), comprising property in p's Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa (t's Llwydiarth, Cefncleisiog, Dolwar, Rhiwlas, Halfen, Fach-wen, Farchwel, Llaethbwlch), Llanwddyn (t. Garthbwlch), Meifod, Welshpool, and Llanfyllin, cos Mont. and Denb.; (ii) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B, comprising property in p's Llandrinio, Llanllugan, Llanwyddelan, Manafon and Mochdre, and Llanfair Caereinion tithes, all in co. Mont.; (iii) Llanfair collection, comprising property in p's Llanfair Caereinion, Llangynyw, Llanerfyl, Llangadfan and Garthbeibio, co. Mont.; (iv) Carno collection, comprising property in p. Collection I

From 1786 onwards Collection I is divided into three parts: (1i) Rhiwgoch estate; (2ii) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B (co. Mer.); (2iii) Manor of Valle Crucis (p. Llanfrothen), (2iv) Llanfair collection (p. Mallwyd), (2v) Glan-llyn estate, (2vi) Purchased estate 1768 (p. Llanuwchllyn);. (3Vi) Purchased estate 1768 (p. Llangedwyn), (3vii) Llwydiarth estate, (Llangedwyn collection), (3viii) Llwydiarth estate (Mochnant collection), (3ix) Glascoed, Llanforda, Plas-y-ward B (co. Mont.).
