Also in the volume (pp. 1-2) is a leaf in the hand of Evan Evans (ieuan Fardd) from a history of Sir Rhys ap Thomas, which appears to belong between pp. 156 and 157 of NLW MS 2038D.

Legal precedents

Two books of legal precedents, one containing examples from England, mainly London, and the other containing copies of documents relating to actions in the counties of Anglesey, Caernarvonshire, Merioneth, and Shropshire.

Welsh proverbs, &c.

A manuscript, in two parts, in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd). The first part (old foliation 1-56) contains a dedication to Sir Watkin Williams Wynn of Wynnstay and a dedicatory preface in which it is stated that this transcript was made from the exemplar of William Maurice of Cefn y Braich 'in tua Bibliotheca Lanvordaviana' (pp. 3-12), and an address to the reader which relates to the sources of the collection (pp. 17-95); Gruffudd Hiraethog's 'Lloegr-drigiant Ddifyrrwch Brytannaidd Gymro' (pp. 97-109; cf. Peniarth MS 155); and a copy of the Latin and Welsh prefaces as printed before the Proverbs in the Dictionarium Duplex of Dr John Davies, 1632 (pp. 110-112). The second part (old foliation 1-316) contains 'Adagia Britannica' or Welsh proverbs collected by 'yr Hên Gyrys o Jal', with translations into Latin and some illustrative notes by Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, copied from the transcript made by William Maurice of Llansilin 'ex prototypo' in 1675 (this collection is fuller than that printed at the end of Dr Davies's Dictionary) (pp. 113-654); followed by 'Cas bethau gwyr Rhufain' and 'Cas ddynion Selyf Ddoeth', etc. (pp. 655-680); further material from the 'Lloegr-drigiant Ddifyrrwch Brytannaidd Gymro' of Gruffudd Hiraethog (pp. 689-733); etc.

Brut y Tywyssogion

A note by Ieuan (p. 383) states that he transcribed the text of the Brut in 1784 from a copy made by 'R. Davies' in 1781 (see p. 382). The text of the Brut appears to be a faithful transcript of a Llannerch manuscript.

Brut Gruffydd ab Arthur, &c.

A transcript, in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), of 'Brut Gruf. ab Arthur', a compiled version of Brut y Brenhinedd 'transcribed from a very old copy of the British History on Vellum' (NLW MS 1978iB, ff. 1-109 verso, and NLW MS 1978iiB, ff. 110-261 verso); together with copies of correspondence, 1758-1765, of Edward Richard of Ystrad Meurig School and Lewis Morris, relating to Ieuan Fardd, Morris's health, literary criticism and Celtic antiquities, with special reference to Camden and Nennius (NLW MS 1978iB, ff. 111-192); and copies of two letters from 'Dr. Phillipps' [the Rev. James Phillips], Blaen y Pant, to Edward Richard (NLW MS 1978iB, ff. 192-194). Also included is a table of contents (ff. 195-196) and a pedigree of St David (f. 261 verso).
The text of Brut y Brenhinedd was the original of the text of Brut Gruffydd ab Arthur printed in the second volume of the Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales.
