Miscellaneous printed, typescript, and manuscript material, August - September 1939, relating to plans for the reception of evacuees from Liverpool at Aberystwyth.

A volume, 1716-67, containing culinary, medical and veterinary recipes, mainly compiled by Mary Edwards, probably of Great Ness, co. Salop, later the wife of the Reverend William Parry of Ness (will proved at PCC, 1767), with additions by other hands. The recipes were mainly acquired from relatives and friends from the same county, but a few are drawn from printed sources such as The Gentleman's Magazine. An index is included on pp. 299-310.

A manuscript containing a copy made by J. T. Evans, rector, of the register of baptisms, 1680-1707, for the parish of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.

A register, 1647-1649, giving particulars of the sale of episcopal lands in England and Wales, including the dioceses of St Asaph, Bangor, St Davids and Llandaff.

The printers' copy (typescript, with manuscript emendations) of D[avid] E[ rwyd] Jenkins (ed.): Religious Societies (Dr. Woodward's 'Account') . . . ( Liverpool, 1935), in which sections of Josiah Woodward: An Account of the Religious Societies in the City of London, &c., and of their Endeavours for Reformation of Manners (4th ed., enlarged, London, 1712), were reprinted, with a historical introduction by D. E. Jenkins, dealing more specifically with Wales.

An annotated interleaved copy of T. [N]. Parker's Remarks on the Malt Tax: with reference to the debate in the House of Commons on the 10th March 1835, and in defence of the farmers and maltsters against the injurious effects of misrepresentations and misprints, and the indiscreet kindness of some of their friends. Shrewsbury, 1835; with a covering circular and cuttings from the Salopian Journal.

The book was written between 1787 and 1802. It apparently belonged to the estate of Mr. Swettenham of Cheshire.

A composite volume of the period c. 1764-1765 containing transcripts and drafts of reports on education in England, Wales, and Ireland, and of other papers on education, collected by a Russian commissioner with a view to establishing an educational system in Russia. The cuttings, ranging from 1884 to 1890, are from Y Dydd, Gwalia, Cambrian News, Liverpool Daily Post, Tit-bits, Y Drych, The Welsh Farmers' Gazette, Liverpool Weekly Mercury, Wellington Journal, Y Llan, Oswestry Advertizer, and the Montgomeryshire Express.

A pocket book containing sermon notes in Welsh ? by, and in the hand of, [the Reverend] Lewis Williams, Wesleyan minister, London, whose name, with the date 27 September 1842, appears on a fly-leaf at the beginning of the volume. The last page bears the date 1 July 1846. Miscellaneous memoranda in English have been inserted on a few pages.

'Ephemeris', being a list of sermon texts, etc. and of the places at which they were delivered, 1775-1794, by Thomas Morgan; most of the sermons were preached at Morley, Yorkshire, while others were delivered at Henllan and elsewhere in Wales. The sermons bear the serial numbers 3484 to 5572.

Typescript transcripts and lists, 1943, compiled by David E. Gardner, comprising transcripts (for 1725-1812) and extracts (1813-1929) of marriages recorded in the parish registers of St Brides, Pembrokeshire (ff. 8-12); transcripts of marriages (1754-1837) recorded in the parish registers of Loughor, Glamorgan (ff. 13-33); and a list of non-parochial registers relating to Cheshire held at the General Registry Office, Somerset House (ff. 1-7).

This volume contains transcripts and extracts from the parish registers of Tregaer, 1696-1805; Usk, 1696-1807; Llanfihangel-iuxta-Usk, 1725-1812; Llanwenarth, 1726-1808; Aberystruth, 1727-1847; Llanhilleth, 1733-1838; Llanellen, 1754-1812; Penrhos, 1780-1812; Monkswood, 1794-1797; Llanmaes (Glamorganshire), 1583-1683; St John, Cardiff (Glamorganshire), 1671-1729; Elmley Lovett (Worcestershire), 1539-1693; Feckenham (Worcestershire), 1558-1696; and Hanbury (Worcestershire), 1578-1667.

Two nineteenth-century tune books now joined together as one volume, the first bearing the dates 1816 and 1866 (inside covers) in the hand of Mair Richards of Darowen, and the second 1850 (inside front cover); the first part contains popular and traditional Welsh song and dance tunes, the second, English waltzes, marches and quicksteps with a few traditional Welsh tunes and hymn-tunes. Also included are an englyn attributed to M[air] R[ichards], but signed below in red by David Richards ('Dewi Silin'; 1783-1826), who may have been the first owner (part one, f. 1).
