F. E. A. Manning, The Director, GPO Wales and Border Counties, Post Office Headquarters, 29 Queen Street, Cardiff. Was sorry to read that Huw T. Edwards had resigned, but much admires his courage and the forthright terms with which he wrote to the Minister. Has much admired all that Huw T. Edwards has done for Wales and his friendly and helpful co-operation in the production of the stamps for Wales and Monmouthshire. Wishes him well in his future efforts on behalf of Wales. 'Personal'.

Brinley Thomas, 13 Havard Road, Llanelly. Staff difficulties at the school prevented him from being at today's meeting. Is dismayed by Huw T. Edwards's action, and yet is full of admiration for him. Understands the frustration which Huw T. Edwards has experienced. If only the Government would display the same sincerity in its dealings with Wales. The existing governmental attitude is 'nothing but hollow mockery of a situation which is steadily worsening'. Wales is still in dire need of Huw T. Edwards's service in the future. Will write again when the situation is clearer.

Trevor M. Williams JP, Chartered Secretary, 8 T-Gwyn Road, Cardiff. Admires Huw T. Edwards's stand over the Welsh Advisory Council and his subsequent resignation. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards will be prepared to stand for election to Parliament, so that the genuine Welsh point of view can be fully represented.

Catherine Roberts, Llangwyfan, Denbigh. Admires Huw T. Edwards's resignation from the Chairmanship and membership of the Council for Wales greatly. It required courage to stand up for his principles. The future of Wales is assured as long as there are men like Huw T. Edwards who are prepared to lead. Welsh.

Leah [ ], The Barn, Hallwood Road, Kettering. Has heard the news about Huw T. Edwards on the radio and in the papers, and is writing to congratulate him on his new ideas. It is high time for someone to stand up for Wales, and the writer is delighted that it is Huw T. Edwards who has taken this step. Is looking forward to seeing Huw T. Edwards at the Welsh dinner and to giving a warm welcome to him when he visits Kettering. Welsh.

J. E. Jones, Secretary of Plaid Cymru, 8 Queen Street, Cardiff. The receipt was in the writer's pocket on Friday evening, but he had no opportunity to give it to Huw T. Edwards and to thank him very much. Is especially grateful for his action on Friday - a stand which may be compared with an action taken by Llywelyn the Great or Owain Glyndr. This is the first brave action by a Welsh public figure, by a leader, for generations. All Welsh leaders since the Acts of Union to the present time have fallen into the same trap. Huw T. Edwards's action is significant; the writer expects that it will mark the beginning of actions on the part of others which will reveal their self-respect. Would like to say these things to Huw T. Edwards rather than write them. Expects much from Huw T. Edwards in future. Welsh.

Ab [ ], Bwthyn Arthur, Waen, Llanelwy. Many in the area were shocked by the news of Huw T. Edwards's resignation. It is a novel thing for a Welshman to sacrifice an important position for the sake of conscience. People have been far too ready to compromise and to place personal gain before the good of the Welsh nation. Huw T. Edwards's fellow-Welshmen know of his love for Wales and were delighted to hear on the radio that he is prepared to serve her in future. The leading article in the Liverpool Daily Post paying tribute to Huw T. Edwards. He has brought a reality to Welsh politics. Welsh.

'EADIC' [ ], 1 Park Hill, Tredegar. Was concerned and surprised to learn of Huw T. Edwards's resignation from the Chairmanship of the Council for Wales, but fully realises that his decision was based on some fundamental facts or frustrations which were 'impeding the pathway to the Welsh aspirations of Welsh Government'. Huw T. Edwards has served the Council well for a whole decade, but sees the Government's failure to implement the Council's real and basic recommendations. But the writer is mindful of the fact that it will be enormously difficult to find a successor.

'Sospan', Llanelli. Thanks for everything which Huw T. Edwards has done for Wales. He has shown a great deal of patience over the years. His sacrifice for Wales will not be in vain. There are thousands who are of the same opinion as Huw T. Edwards. There is reason to thank him for his bravery against the masses. Many thousands support him. Welsh.

[ ], Clwyd and Deeside Hospital Management Committee, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Rhyl. Wishes to add his congratulations. Thinks very highly indeed of Huw T. Edwards, and has been anticipating this step for a long time. The writer would be very glad to assist Huw T. Edwards.

Bill Berriman, Mount Pleasant, Maesycoed, Pontypridd. Knows that Huw T. Edwards is certain to have received many hundreds of letters in response to his action. Congratulations on the stand which Huw T. Edwards has taken. Has sat with Huw T. Edwards on the Welsh Regional Hospital Board and under his Chairmanship on the North Wales Advisory Committee. Greatly appreciates his sincerity in the work of the hospitals, and feels sure that this extends to his other activities. In some ways he feels that it is a pity that Huw T. Edwards has resigned, because there is unlikely to be anyone with sufficient courage to carry on the work.

Hugh Griffiths, Pennant, Ffordd Penlwys, Hen Golwyn [Old Colwyn]. Thanks Huw T. Edwards for taking his stand for Wales. The writer read in the paper this morning that Plaid Cymru was to have the same opportunity to broadcast in the Pontypool by-election as the other parties. There is a tendency to give too much room to eloquent speakers. They are appointed to posts and are elected to councils, and yet all too often they are the poorest workers. There is a need for more people like Huw T. Edwards on the councils. Refers to the attitude of the Liverpool Corporation towards Tryweryn and the backing which it has received at Westminster. Is delighted that Huw T. Edwards is to continue to fight for Wales. Is often ashamed that we have so many spineless men who claim to care for the people of Wales. Welsh.

Eddy [Jones], Drybridge, Skenfrith, Abergavenny, Secretary of the Monmouthshire Federation of Trades and Labour Councils. The Federation appreciates Huw T. Edwards's recent action in resigning. His moral strength has now been demonstrated to the British people. Hopes that this action will now stimulate the Welsh people to gather their strength in a new unity. Encloses a memorandum drafted to a University of the Commonwealth in Wales. It was commended by the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Prime Minister has stated that the Government is prepared to give it serious consideration. Sir Ben Bowen Thomas has also given his support, but notes that the path ahead is tough. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards will give his backing as they seek wider support in Wales.
