Papers of the Welsh-Canadian composer John Metcalf (1946- ) of Llanfair Clydogau, Ceredigion. The collection includes pencil scores of compositions, papers relating to the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, a set of programmes for the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts (1968 onward), and audio-visual materials.

Gwenogvryn Evans (1910)) inscribed to and annotated by Egerton Phillimore; a postcard note addressed to Egerton Phillimore from minister, academic and lexicographer Daniel Silvan Evans relating to place-names referenced in the Book of Taliesin; and a newspaper cutting, 17 August 1916, containing a review of Llyvyr Taliessin.

Papers of Menna Gallie including papers relating to her role as a writer, such as drafts of her novels, drafts of her translations of Un Nos Ola Leuad (Denbigh, 1961) and four chapters of Afal Drwg Adda, (Denbigh, 1973); talks and lectures given by her on a number of subjects; radio transcripts of talks; letters discussing literary matters; reviews of her works; articles written by Menna Gallie; notebooks and publishing contracts. Literary and personal papers, 1854, [c. 1932]-1960, of the novelist, poet and artist Margiad Evans comprising mainly manuscript and typescript drafts of both published and unpublished works and including a draft of her second novel The Wooden Doctor (Oxford, 1933), also manuscript and typescript drafts in preparation for her first published volume of poetry, Poems from Obscurity (London, 1947), manuscript essays, and typescript radio scripts by or based on Margiad Evans's work; together with journals for 1933-1934 and 1935-1939, which include mainly literary and personal notes; and miscellaneous papers.

Peter Thomas, Lord Thomas of Gwydir (1920-2008), was the first Conservative Secretary of State for Wales (1970-1974) and the first Welshman to become Chairman of the Conservative Party (1970-1972). Born in Llanrwst, where his father was a solicitor, he read Law at Jesus College, Oxford. After the war, where he served in the RAF and spent four years as a prisoner of war, he continued with his studies and became a barrister, and was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple in 1947; took Silk in 1965. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Conway between 1951 and 1966 and for Hendon South between 1970 and 1987. After retiring from the House of Commons at the 1987 General Election, The Right Honourable Peter John Mitchell Thomas, QC, was created Baron Thomas of Gwydir, of Llanrwst in the County of Gwynedd.

There are also papers concerning the Labour Party in Wales, 1928-1952; the Parliament for Wales campaign, 1950-1956; Tudor Watkins's visits to Russia in 1961 and to Patagonia in 1965; papers concerning Tudor Watkins's elevation to the House of Lords in 1972; and material deriving from the Brecon and Radnor by-election in 1939.

The archive described here comprises papers formerly known as the Roland Mathias MSS (originally placed on deposit at NLW and converted to a donation in 1994), together with donations, 1993-2003. It includes mostly correspondence, and papers relating to The Anglo-Welsh Review, his literary works, and professional career as a teacher and headmaster. Also included is a group of personal and family papers, together with works by Dora Polk.
