A collection of poetry almost entirely in free metres entitled 'Casgliad o Gerddi a Charolau ar amryw Destynau O waith amriw Feirdd Cymru'. The manuscript is in the hand of David Ellis, Cricieth, and was written around 1790-1. The poets represented are Arthur Jones ('Clochydd Llan Gadwaladr yn swydd Ddinbych') (1743-56), Morys Roberts (Bala), Huw Thomas (Llandderfel) (1729, 1752), David Ellis (1757-91), Huw Morys, Ellis Rowland (Harlech), William Wynne ('Person Llangynhafal') (1745), Richard Parry ('Athraw Ysgol yn Niwbwrch'), Ellis Cadwaladr (Edeirnion) (1718), Ellis ab Ellis ('Gweinidog Eglwys Rhos a Llan Dudno') (1683), Iolo ap Ieuan, Edward Morris, Edward Jones (Bodffari), Rhys Ellis ('o'r Waun'), David Jones otherwise 'Dafydd hir o Lanfair Talhaiarn', Griffith Edward, Morgan Llwyd (Maentwrog), Edward Samuel ('Person Llangarw gwyn'), and Evan Herbert ('Gweinidog Llan Illtud a Llan Fachreth'). At the end of the volume is a table of contents ('Cynwysiad y Caniadau') and an index of poets ('Enwau'r Prydyddion ...'). The spine is lettered 'David Ellis MS'.

A manuscript index to J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Môn) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9) compiled for J. H. Davies by T. Vaughan Roberts, London and completed in 1911. The general index (420 pp.) is followed by lists of 'Words and phrases characteristic of the Morrises or illustrating forms commonly used by them' and 'Books, Pamphlets, Manuscripts & Poems referred to', references to 'Trades & Professions', and a number of corrections. Other items ('Removed from the manuscript before it was sent to Mr Jenkin James, January 7, 1931') consist of a letter, 1911, from the compiler, T. Vaughan Roberts to J. H. Davies, and a letter, 1902, from John Ballinger, Cardiff to J. H. Davies enclosing notes and items of verse (mainly by Lewis Morris) copied by J. Ifano Jones from 'an imperfect copy of Dr John Davies's Dictionary, 1632, once the property of Lewis Morris' and from copies of [Huw Jones], Diddanwch Teuluaidd (Llundain, 1763) which belonged to John William Prichard, Plas-y-brain and Nicholas Bennett respectively.

(Londini, 1632), and extensive elaborate calligraphic exercises partly in the form of transcripts of documents associated with the name of Griffith Vaughan of Pool [Montgomeryshire], 1647 and undated. Many of the pages containing calligraphic exercises, as in the case of some of the manuscripts of John Jones, ?Gellifydy, are damaged on account of the corrosive nature of the ink used by the scribe.

Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').

The volume was compiled during and immediately after the period 1788-9 and contains a draft of 'A short Account of the Life and Writings of Hugh (Huw) Morris [of Pontymeibion, Llansilin]'; poetry in strict and free metres by Huw Morys, Edward Samuel (Llangar), Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), Edward Llwyd, Elis Edwards, William Wynne (Llanganhafal), Hugh Jones (Llangwm), David Samwell, John Lloyd ('Vicar Llandrillo'), Daniel Davies (London), [John Roderick] 'Sion Rhydderch', Gryffydd ap Ivan ap Llewelyn Fychan, and Edwd. A manuscript largely in the hand of Robert Hughes ('Robin Ddu yr Ail o Fôn', 1744-85), containing a transcript made in 1759 of 'Llyfr Barddoniaeth [y]n Cynwys Colofnau Cerdd Dafod ... O Gasgliad Myfyriad ag argraffiad John Rhydderch 1728 ...' 'Barsillai. Pregeth, a Bregethwyd Yn St Marie Aldermanburie; Yn Llundain. Gan Robert Harris; Gwyryf Difynyddiaeth. Ac a gyfiaethiwyd, o'r Saesoneg I'r Gymraeg, gan Robt. Hughes Athraw Ysgol ym Mhenmynydd', the translator's preface ('Y Darllenydd') being dated at Penmynydd 28 September, 1761; and lesser miscellaneous items, among them being an extract from 'Llyfr Y Weddi Gyffredin Yn ôl Athrawiaeth Ac Awdurdod Belzebub', 'A brief Introduction to Understand the New Invented Sliding Rule', Welsh and English poetry (of which one composition is dated 1763) and an incomplete and undated draft receipt from Elizabeth Griffith, wife of Wm. Letters and miscellaneous papers comprising two letters [+], 1693, from Ch[arles] Owen, Oswestree to the Lady Archer near Epping in Essex (acknowledging all the expressions of her ladyship's extraordinary favours to him, mentioning that after a tedious ramble and censorious suspicions he came home in safety, the liberality of friends, 'Yet all this will not do for a Compensation for the injury done me', he desired his brother to assist Mr (?) Durrant in adjusting those wretched differences at Epping - her Ladyship's honourable attempts towards it); seven letters [+] from T[homas] Burgess, successively bishop of St Davids and of Salisbury, one written from C[orpus] C[hristi] C[ollege], Oxford, 1787, to T[homas] Falconer, Esq'r, Chester (thanking him for the present of his little book, requesting the addressee's opinion on the meaning of a passage from the Gospels and quoting from the preface to a second edition of the [Salisbury] spelling-book), two, possibly three, written from Abergwilly Palace and London, 1813-14, to the Reverend T. W. [recte T. The items marked + were formerly Phillipps MS 35051 (see letter dated 9 February 1973 from Dr A. N. L. Munby to the Keeper of Manuscripts, National Library of Wales). # - The wrapping paper has on it 'Phillipps MSS 34929' in pencil in the autograph of J. H. Davies but, with the exception of the 'inventory of goods', the contents of this package do not appear to correspond to the description of Phillipps MS 34929 as given by Dr Munby in his letter, although Phillipps MS 34929 was purchased by J. H. Davies.

A miscellany in the hand of David Evans, Llanrwst, under the title and sub-title of 'Blodau'r Awen neu Wyneb yr Awenydd. Blodau'r Gerddwriaeth' and 'Lloffion o waith amryw Awdwyr ... yn cynwys Man-gofion Barddonol ynghyd a chwedlau Barddonol a Mangofion hanesol ynghyd ac Englynion ...'. An exercise book (19 pp.) containing transcripts by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of a few items of poetry in strict and free metre by Edward Samuel (1674-1748), including 'Cywydd Marwnad Hugh Jones o Fottegir .. [1715]', 'Beddargraff Robert Humphreys ['Robin Ragad']' and 'Carol Plygain ar y Fad-lef fawr.'.

Twenty-eight holograph letters and a fragment of another, 1728-1764, of the Morrises of Anglesey and their circle, the correspondents being Rhist. Morys, London (4), Llywelin Deheubarth (1), Edward Hughes, Aberystwyth and Gallt Vadog (5), Lewis Morris, London and Galltvadog (10), [Goronwy Owen] 'Gronwy Ddu', Llundain (1), Margt. Owen, Pentrerianell (5), Wm Morris, Caer Gybi Sant (1), an unnamed correspondent, Llanvayr Clwydogau (1), and Richd. Morris, Rhydyraderyn (1). All these letters have been published except possibly that of Rich[ar]d Morris, Rhydyraderyn (1764), and a chronological list with references has now been inserted in the volume. Most of the letters have been published in Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), ed. Hugh Owen (Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, Part II (1949). They are followed by copies of letters written to [Hugh Hughes] Hugh ap Hugh, Llwydiarth Esgob by John Thomas [d. 1769], Bangor and Bewmaris [sic], 1764-7 (3), and Rhist. Morys, Llundain, 1760-70 (4, one possibly holograph). At the end of the volume are items of verse by various authors, including S. W., Owen Gruffydd, John Roderick, Sion Onest, 1736, Hugh Morris, Ellis Cadwaladr and Evan Williams 'Telynior yn Llundain' (a translation of 'Lovely Peggy').
