Two letters, 1955, from John Cowper Powys and one, 1962, written on his behalf by Frederick Davies, to W. Disspain of Kingston-on-Thames, tipped in a copy of the writer's The Art of Happiness (London, 1935), inscribed by him for Mr Disspain.
The inscription, dated 9 February 1955, on the fly leaf, consists of a seven line quotation, in Greek with English translation, from the Iliad. A notice of Powys' death from The Times, 18 [recte 19] June 1963, is pasted onto the same leaf.

Sixty autograph letters, 1944-1945, 1953-1962, from John Cowper Powys to his typist Mrs Dorothy May Meech, Dorchester (ff. 1-24, 34-37, 40, 43-68, 71-72, 74-77), together with ten letters, 1955-1956, 1960-1961, from Powys's partner Phyllis Playter to Meech (ff. 25-33, 38-39, 41-42, 69-70, 73). The letters mainly concern Powys's works in progress, manuscripts sent to Meech for typing, Mrs Meech's health and that of Powys's relatives, as well as childhood recollections of Weymouth and references to house-hunting in Blaenau Ffestiniog prior to Powys and Playter's move there from Corwen in 1955. Playter's letters are evidently written at times when Powys was too ill or tired to correspond himself. A self-caricature in ink by Powys is on f. 53 verso. Also included is a photograph of John Cowper Powys inscribed to Mrs Meech and dated 20 December 1950 (f. 7).

Ten letters, February 1960-April 1961, from the painter Augustus John, Fordingbridge, Hampshire, to the art collector [Emerich (Emo)] Telt[s]ch, mostly concerning John's work (ff. 1-3, 5-10, 13); together with one letter from Dorelia John to Teltsch, 19 August 1960 (f. 4), and one from the painter Jo[sette] Jones to Teltsch, [February 1961] (ff. 11-12).
The letters contain references to work on John's triptych 'Les Saintes-Maries de la Mer with Sainte Sara, l'Egyptienne' (ff. 3, 5-9, 13); Teltsch offered him up to £8000 for the work (see NLW MS 22786D, f. 68, and Michael Holroyd, Augustus John: The New Biography (London, 1996), p. 597). There are two letters, from John (f. 10) and Josette Jones (ff. 11-12), concerning John's apology for an ill-advised letter (not present) to Teltsch, criticizing drawings by Teltsch's God-child (unidentified).

The collection includes the personal and professional correspondence and papers of George Julian Selwyn Scovell while employed by the Ministry of National Service at the end of the First World War and the Coalition Liberal Organisation during the post-war premiership of David Lloyd George along with correspondence, photographs, postcards, ephemera and publications related to David Lloyd George which were collected by Tony O'Connor.

The catalogued portion of the archive contains records of the family of Owen, later Humphreys-Owen, of Glansevern, and Johnes of Garthmyl, mainly comprising title deeds and documents, [late 12 cent.]-1929, mainly relating to property in Montgomeryshire; estate papers, 1767-1924, including rentals, accounts and surveys; records relating to Campobello island, New Brunswick, Canada, 1767-1902; substantial family correspondence, 1633-1926, political correspondence of Arthur Charles Humphreys-Owen, 1856-1905, including letters from Lord Rendel; naval papers of Captain William Owen, 1746-1778, [c. 1797]. Twenty letters and cards, 1935-1960, from the architect Clough Williams-Ellis to the topographer Edmund Vale, Bethesda (ff. 1-16, 18-20, 23-27, 29-35), some discussing the proposed publication of the former's Britain and the Beast (London, 1937), to which Vale was a contributor (ff. 1-20 passim).
Also included are seven letters and cards (one incomplete), 1948-1959, from the architect's sister-in-law, Cecily Williams-Ellis, to Vale, mostly relating to the activities of the Caernarvonshire Branch of the Council for the Preservation of Rural Wales (ff. 36-39, 41-45); as well as three carbon copies of letters from Vale, 1937, 1949 (ff. 17, 21, 40).
