Legal tracts, etc.

Copies of legal tracts including a 16th century copy of a treatise, in French, on Forest laws. The treatise, which was composed after 1390, takes the form of an exposition of the Charter of the Forest of November 1217, and the opening words of each section of that statute are quoted in the text. (See also MS 50). This is followed by thirty questions, with answers, on ecclesiastical law, mainly concerning plurality and residence in benefices; 'Mayster Lambertes treatyse of the high courtes of Justice in England & especiallye of the Chauncerie & of the lord Chauncellor yt judgeth there, 1584' (Mayster Lamberte is probably William Lambarde, 1536-1601, the historian of Kent); 'The recognition of the high and sacred authority of the supremacy investid in our most gracious soueraigne ladie Elizabeth ... delivered in the open sessions holden at xc wth the ordinary charge the 2 of Octobr 1593' (This charge also may the work of William Lambarde); 'A breef note of the chardge of Sr Jon. Brydgeman, made at Ludlow the 22 of Januarye, 1635'; and a copy of a cywydd marwnad by Sion Kein (probably in his autograph) to Roger Kynaston, 1641.

A lawyer's account and note book.

Memoranda of cases heard in London, 1637-1641, and memoranda and accounts of legal services largely rendered to members of the Wynn family and their relations: William Wynn, Owen Wynn, Maurice Wynn, Sir Richard Wynn, William Mostyn, Mr Bodvell etc. The notebook may have been that of one of Henry Wynn's clerks.

Argument upon impositions.

A copy of 'An argumt. uppon the question of Imposicons Digested and devided into sundry chapters by one of his Ma[jes]ties learned Counsell in Ireland', i.e. by Sir John Davies (1569-1626), with a dedication to the King [i.e. James I]. The manuscript is written in three hands, and is earlier than the date of the first printed version of the work (1656).

An interleaved copy with marginal notes which have been mutilated by the binder. 'Liber Cad. Kyffin, 1651': Cadwaladr Kyffin of Glascoed graduated from Hart Hall in 1620, MA, 1623. He became vicar of Llanllyfni in 1623, and rector of Llaniestyn, co. Caern, in 1631, according to Foster's Alumni Oxonienses, but these particulars are not corroborated by Arthur Ivor Pryce's books on the diocese of Bangor.

Ethics & moral philosophy.

This appears to be one of the college notebooks of William Williams (Speaker Williams), and is inscribed 'Sum liber Guil: Williams, Anno 1651'. It contains notes on Moral Philosophy and Ethics, extracts from Aristotle's works and questions on Logic, Ethics, Grammar, Geometry, etc.

A book of signed receipts for annuities paid to the use of the Capucins by Sir Richard Wynn, a transcript of a privy seal dated 19 March 1629, a signed warrant by Queen Henrietta Maria, 10 Aug. 1652, a certificate by F. Leonard in favour of M. Blaize who signed the acquittances till 1632, a note by F. Jean Marie in favour of F. Sebastien who signed the acquittances from 1632 to 1641.
