Papers relating to the sale and lease by Captain Robert William Herbert Watkin Williams Wynn of land belonging to the Plas yn Cefn estate at Colwyn Bay and Llysfaen, Caernarfonshire, for building purposes and road construction, 1891-1921. The building sites are specified as the Cefn estate, Meriadog Road, Cadwgan Road, Llanelian Road, Wellington Road, Peulwys Road, Wyndcliffe in Abergele Road, Bodelwyddan Avenue, Berthglyd Road, Coed Coch Road, and Dr Leeming’s garage adjoining Mohrcroft garden. The builders were Robert Evans of Old Colwyn and Fred J. Tucker of Colwyn Bay. Purchasers and lessees include Old Colwyn Golf Club, David Ed. Evans, Black’s Advertising Agency and Conwy Rural District Council (easements for water supply). The documents include a charge for securing moneys advanced to the builder, 1891; building and loan accounts, 1900-1912; formal agreements, 1905-1912; specifications of properties, 1908-1910; letters to the land agent, Douglas MacNicoll, which include a proposal for the construction of a school, 1910-1914; notice to Robert Evans of rescission of contract, 1911; an insurance policy for the golf house, 1912; a list and plan of owners in Wellington Road; a valuation of land at Llannerch Road West, 1916; an agreement for a garden near Carlton; and plans of a portion of the Cefn building estate, and of some individual properties.

Over two hundred letters, 1898-1915, and related papers, [c. 1904]-[c. 1919], of David Lloyd George, 1st earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor. The bulk of the correspondence is addressed to Lloyd George but there are also a few notes in Lloyd George's hand. Most of the letters relate to Welsh affairs, and in particular to the Disestablishment question and the contentious Welsh Church Commission, 1906-1907; other subjects include education, the investiture of the Prince of Wales, 1911, and the First World War. For the most part the correspondents are Welsh politicians and public figures; there are also letters from the 1st earl of Halifax (1) 1914, Randall Davidson, archbishop of Canterbury (1) 1906, and Herbert Gladstone (2) 1907-1910. Mortgages and other papers relating to mortgages (mainly copies and drafts) on the Wynnstay estates in Salop, Montgomeryshire, Flintshire, Merioneth and Denbighshire, but also including a small number of family deeds, and documentary evidence of mortgages of the Peniarth estate for which the Williams Wynn family acted as trustees, 1770-1921. The Wynnstay securities comprised two very large mortgages of £77,000 and £60,000, respectively assigned to new mortgagees in 1845.

The file includes an assignment by the mortgagees of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn to Elizabeth Duchess Dowager of Cleveland of £60,000 secured on properties in the parishes of Wrexham, Gresford, Erbistock, Ruabon and Lansilin, Denbighshire, 1845, followed by an abstract dated 1872 of the reconveyance in 1859; an abstract of mortgage for £23,700 from Sir Watkin Williams Wynn of properties in Montgomeryshire, Merioneth, Denbighshire and Salop, 1853; a schedule of mortgages upon the estates of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn 1853; an abstract of release from the Bank of England to the trustees of William Wynne of Peniarth of part of his estates comprised in a mortgage, 1866; schedules of lands in the parishes of Llanbryn-mair, Llanrheader-ym-Mochnant and Llanfyllin, apparently comprised in a mortgage of William Robert Maurice Wynne, 1891, and of lands in Llanuwchllyn comprised in a security to Messrs Stone and Cunliffe, 1892; and a list of mortgages of Charles Henry Wynn, 1921.
