Family and estate deeds

The file comprises the probate of the will of Thomas Lloyd of Cilgwyn, 1790, a deed of partition of the Cilgwyn estate, 1834, a charge of #40,000 on the estate, 1855, and the probate of the will of Edward Compton Lloyd Fitzwilliams, 1880.

The file comprises a press copy letter book of C. H. L. Fitzwilliams. The letters mainly relate to family and private affairs, including his household at Strathleven, Dumbarton, 1873, and its transfer to Emlyn Cottage, Newcastle Emlyn, Dec. 1873.

The file comprises letters to C. H. L. Fitzwilliams, Colonel E. C. L. Fitzwilliams and T. Gibbon, the estate agent, including some from tenants, solicitors and potential developers. The letters were originally loose, but have been gathered together for convenience.

The file comprises letters mainly relating to estate properties, and particularly to the Van Quarry in the parish of Llangyndeyrn. There are a number of papers, 1923-1926, relating to the Conservative interest in Cardiganshire, including a suggestion to wind up the Cardiganshire Unionist Association because of an excess overdraft, 1925, and a file of copy objections to persons on the electoral lists, 1926.

The file comprises a press copy letter book of T. Gibbon's estate correspondence. The letters include a copy of the Cilgwyn estate return to the census of woodlands, June 1925.

Rentals

The series comprises an incomplete run of twice-yearly rental accounts, Lady Day and Michaelmas. The 1850 rental relates only to the Van estate in the parish of Llangyndeyrn. The 1860-1867 rentals relate to the Van estate and to the Alltcynadda estate in the parish of Kidwelly. There is also a rental account for lots 5 (Felindre), 6 (Pantllin), 7 (Lime Rocks), 14 (Tymelin and Danypond), 17 (Rhydhowell) and 18 (Tyrberllan) of the Frood estate, purchased by E. C. L. Fitzwilliams, March 1863-Sept. 1867. The Pantllin estate in the parish of Llangyndeyrn, comprising at least some of these Frood estate purchases, appears in the main series of rentals from Lady Day 1868. Most rentals enclose accounts of the rent collections, held at Llandysul, Llangeler, Cilgwyn and Van, and banking accounts. Most of the 1912-1923 rentals are settled accounts, signed by either or both the estate owner and the estate steward.

Rentals

The file comprises twice-yearly rental accounts of the Van, Alltcynadda (from Michaelmas 1860) and Pantllin (from Lady Day 1868) estates, and a rental account, March 1863-Sept. 1867, for lots 5-7, 14 and 17-18 of the Frood estate, purchased by E. C. L. Fitzwilliams.
