A collection of miscellaneous pedigrees and related materials, [17 cent., second ½]-1981, derived from various sources, accessioned between [?1935] and 1983 and collected together at the National Library of Wales.

A volume compiled, [c. 1790], by the Rev. Thomas Edwards of Mount Sion, Selattyn, Shropshire, rector of Llanfechain, Montgomeryshire, containing lists of incumbents for each parish in the Diocese of St Asaph, arranged mostly alphabetically by parish (pp. 1-4, 7-260), together with lists of the bishops, deans, archdeacons, prebendaries and chancellors of the diocese (pp. 261-289). The volume contains later additions by Edwards and, to about 1853, in the hand of the Rev. Richard Bonnor Maurice Bonnor.
The lists are written on rectos, often with notes inserted on the versos opposite. The volume also includes an index of parishes (pp. 540-543), notes on 'Antient Usages & Customs in North Wales' (pp. 293-295) and ecclesiastical wakes (pp. 299-302) and a poem (p. 297).

A manuscript volume, begun in about 1709, belonging initially to an Elizabeth Salusbury, containing numerous medicinal remedies and culinary recipes (pp. 1-186, 197-236, 238-242), together with a series of 'amlegues', diagrams displaying collections of dishes for different meals (pp. 187-196, 237). The volume appears to be in at least two different hands, the second appearing on pp. 122-207 passim. The contents of pp. 1-40 are listed at the front of the volume (pp. i-iv).
Also included is a small group of loose papers, 1756-1792 and undated, some relating to the Jones family of Llantisilio Hall, Llangollen, mostly consisting of further recipes (pp. 243-276). Elizabeth Salusbury is likely the daughter of Peter Salusbury of Abergele, who married firstly Thomas Peirce of Llysvaen in 1715/6 and secondly John Lloyd of Llansilin in 1720; her daughter Mary Lloyd married Thomas Jones of Llantisilio Hall in 1740. A letter, 1756, from John Leche (p. 275) refers to 'you and Mrs Jones' and to 'good Mrs Lloyd'.

Manuscript memoir, 1774-1775, of William Owen, recalling his early years in the Royal Navy, from 1750 to 1761, in particular his time in India from 1754. The volume recounts life and events on board ship, together with incidents, escapades and misadventures ashore.
Owen went to sea as a midshipman and passed his Lieutenant's exam on 1 February 1758 (pp. 328-329). He served aboard several ships, most notably HMS Tyger, 1754-1759 (pp. 137-403), and HMS Sunderland, 1759-1761 (pp. 411-547). He participated in several naval and land actions in the Carnatic, Bengal and elsewhere, including the capture of Geriah (Vijaydurg), February 1756 (pp. 194-204), the expedition to retake Calcutta, December 1756-February 1757 (pp. 242-68), the battle of Chandernagore, 23 March 1757 (pp. 282-9), the naval battles off Cuddalore, 30 April 1758 (pp. 343-7), Negapatam, 3 August 1758 (pp. 368-73) and Pondicherry, 11 September 1759 (pp. 444-9), and the subsequent siege and blockade of Pondicherry, August 1760-January 1761 (pp. 530-53). Other incidents of note include a fraught voyage from Jamaica to England, October 1753-January 1754 (pp. 120-32), an ill-fated shooting expedition in Trincomalee, Ceylon, July 1759 (pp. 427-36), the loss of his right arm during a raid at Pondicherry, 6 October 1760 (pp. 531-6), and the sinking of HMS Sunderland in a cyclone shortly before Owen was due to rejoin her, 1 January 1761 (pp. 544-7). The volume, which contains occasional corrections, deletions and interpolations, is based mainly on Owen's journals, log books and other papers (see NLW, Glansevern Estate Records). Archive of the Skenfrith Son et Lumiere production, 1982-1983, which was staged on three consecutive days in August 1983, including the script ‘Ynysgynwraidd’ (The story of the oldest Marcher Castle) which was written by Bob Forrest-Webb, together with annotated photographs, programme and a copy of The Skenfrith Parish Magazine, including an account by Bob Forrest-Webb entitled 'The Skenfrith saga'. Over three thousand pounds was raised towards the restoration of the window in St. Bridget’s Church, Skenfrith, through the Skenfrith project.

A copy, [2015], of an interview conducted by Dr Jules Smith with the poet Douglas Houston between August 2011 and early 2012, the last interview before his death. It was published on Hinterland, an online e-poetry journal associated with the University of Leicester, in 2013.

Poems, essays and other prose items written by Eliza Carmarthen (1825-1872), i.e. Eliza Phillipps Williams, Carmarthen, who married (1) the Rev. John Saunders Hughes and (2) the Rev. Thomas Johns.
The volume contains short essays and thoughts on Scriptural and other subjects, two short stories entitled 'I wish to be happy' and 'The Dying Student' and a large number of hymns and poems, mostly in English. Also included are two poems in English by Eliza's father John Williams, with a Welsh translation of one of them, and silhouettes by the late Miss Aldrit, Highbury Hall, Weston-super-Mare, and Mrs Johns.

A postcard from Strasbourg, in Welsh, from Gareth Jones (1905-1935), linguist and journalist, to Richard Lewis who was at college with him in Aberystwyth, 1919-1923. Gareth Jones was private secretary to David Lloyd George, 1931-1933. He was captured and held to ransom by Chinese bandits in 1935, and was later shot after weeks in captivity. Also included is a press cutting relating to his story, and an obituary card.
