Copies of: (a) The concluding portion, from 1065 to the end, of the Historia de gestis regalibus regum britannie of Alfred of Beverley. This copy contains the additional paragraphs which are to be found in Peniarth MS 384 (ff. 1-3 verso, 10-16 verso); (b) Portions of the chronicle of Robert of Torigni: 1. Prologus Roberti de Torineio, beginning 'De Chronographia temporum descriptione ...' (ff. 7-8), 2. The letter of Henry of Huntingdon to Guerin le Breton ('Incipit Epistola Archidiaconi ad Warinum Britonem de regno Britonum ...') wherein he refers to a copy of a history of the British Kings by Geoffrey Arthur in the Abbey of Bec, in 1139 (ff. 8-9 verso and ff. 4-5 verso).

Edward Lhuyd letter to the Bishop of Bangor

An autograph letter, 9 June 1698, from Edward Lhuyd, Pembroke, to [Humphrey Humphreys], Bishop of Bangor, relating to Lhuyd's ongoing tour of South Wales, describing the difficulties faced in corresponding, his fossil collecting and his research into Welsh manuscripts (f. 1).
Also included is an engraved portrait of Lhuyd, 1796 (f. 2).

Rug legal papers

Legal papers of the Salesbury family of Rug, deriving from a dispute between Elizabeth Salesbury and Margaret Salesbury, and Roger Salesbury, concerning the payment of portions due to the plaintiffs under the trusts of the will of their father, Owen Salesbury, 1698-1715, and the case of Roger Salesbury about a deed executed at Ruthin, 1713, which may be indirectly related.

Cases concerning trusts of the will and settlement of Owen Salesbury

Papers deriving from a dispute in the High Court of Chancery between Elizabeth Salesbury and Margaret Salesbury, daughters of Owen Salesbury, deceased, (per Elizabeth Salesbury their mother), plaintiffs, and Roger Salesbury, Sir John Trevor, Owen Eyton, Sir Roger Mostyn, Gabriel Salesbury, Ellis Young and Ellis Lloyd, defendants, concerning the payment of the portions due to the plaintiffs in accordance with the trusts of the will and settlement of Owen Salesbury, 1698-1715. They comprise the decretal orders, a report, a letter to Roger Salesbury from R. Green, and the answers of Elizabeth Baraston [nee Salesbury] and Margaret Salesbury, and of Sir Roger Mostyn to bills of complaint by Roger Salesbury.

Notebook of Edward Lhuyd

Field notebook in the hand of Edward Lhuyd, probably compiled during a tour in preparation for his proposed work on the topography and natural history of Wales, 1698-1699. The contents form an itinerary, starting at Kidwelly [sic] and recording the orientation and distance between each of the places visited, from Carmarthenshire through Cardiganshire, Brecknockshire, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire, Merioneth, Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire, back to Conwy and then Anglesey. There are occasional brief remarks on the landscape, weather, and Welsh names for the last three days of March and the first of April. On the penultimate page is a sketch of a starfish found near Harlech.

A notebook of Edward Lhuyd, written 1698 (see pp. 10, 52), containing details of monumental inscriptions in Llanboidy (p. 6), Defynnog (p. 7), Llanfihangel (Mongomeryshire) (p. 17), Trawsfynydd (p. 31), Llangadog (p. 53), Herefordshire (pp. 58, 72), Llanllywenfel (p. 75), Llanafan Fawr (p. 77) and Llandanwg (p. 89); sketches of stone crosses (pp. 59-61, 73), stone circles (pp. 27, 44, 94, 99, 100) and further stones (pp. 2, 9, 42-3, 56), lime pit fossils (pp. 14, 44, 54, 62, 84-5, 145), a window (p. 3), Llangorse lake (p. 36), and the shore by Barry Island (pp. 37-8); and details of tombstones and their epitaphs (pp. 4, 11, 13, 39, 47, 63, 69, 81). The volume also includes notes relating to manuscripts and their owners (pp. 65-74), etc. An autograph note on p. 120 states: 'Mr. Edward Lhwyd was born at Lappiton parish, his nurse is now [?1698] living at Krew green (where he was nurs'd) 9 yre of her at Mrs. Judith Cowfield at Lappiton / his nurse says he is 41 years old 3 days before Michaelmas last according to Catherine Bowen his nurse to ye best of her memory'.

Penegoes mining lease

Assignment by Francis Gell of London to Edward Thompson of York and Charles Middelton of London, of lead mines in the commons of Uwch y Coed, Penegoes, in the lordship of Cyfeiliog, Montgomeryshire, 1697/8. Recites that William Pughe of Mathafarn granted the lease to Franci Gell on 20 Nov. 1693.
