A notebook written in pencil by Edward Williams, 'Iolo Morganwg', and containing an account of his journey from London to Merthyr, 29 May - (?) 24 June 1802. A few of the pages are now very indistinct and almost illegible. The places mentioned include Tatsworth, Oxford, Woodstock, Enstone, Long Compton and Rollright circle, Tidmanton, Alderminster, Stratford upon Avon, Wooton [sic], Henly [sic], Birmingham, Bromwich, Westbury, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Tettenhall, Shiffnal [sic], Madley ? [Madeley], Colebrook Dale, Buildwas, Hatcham, Salop (Shrewsbury), Crew Green, Meivod, Llanfair, Newtown, Ceri, Felindre, Bugeildy, Llanfair Waterdine, Knighton, Norton, Presteign, New Radnor, Old Radnor, Glasdre [? Further typescript drafts of Mary Ellis's 'Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) 1761-1849', collated by the cataloguer and apparently preceding the drafts in ME 5/3. They consist of two almost complete drafts (ME 6/1-2), with a further copy of ff. 83-197 only, as well as disconnected fragments (22 ff.) from at least two different copies (ME 6/3). Each copy has at least some emendations in the hand of ME.

The volume is in two parts, the first part (pp. 1-198) containing poetry mainly by Ieuan Lleyn, with some items also by John Jones, Glan y Gors (beginning wanting), R. Ll. Ddu, Cyllidydd, Pwllheli, 1821, Morrus Dwyfech alias Morrus ab Ifan ab Einion, Owen Gruffydd, Thomas Glyn Llifon, Rich[ar]d Hughes, Cadwaladr Cesail, Sion Roger, D. Drefriw and G. Felyn, y Parchedig Evan Evans 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir', Rod. Other items in the first part include a draft of a letter, undated, from Evan Pr[ichard] [i.e. 'Ieuan Lleyn'] to an unnamed correspondent (p. 89) (a request for [the mastership of] the free school belonging to the parishes of Rhiw, Bryncroes, Aberdaron and Llanfaelrhys if W[illia]m Owen is turned out), a (?)copy of a letter, 1791, from Ieuan Rich[ar]d, Ty Mawr to an unnamed correspondent whom he addresses as 'Enwog Fardd' (p. 95) (he was unable to attend the Eisteddfod held at Llanrwst; verse in strict and free metre), a (?)translation of a speech by Mr Hodgins [sic], an operative cotton spinner, respecting the Combination Laws, and a speech in Welsh on freedom ('From Walter Davies's Essay [Rhyddid (1791) ]'). The pages following (i.e. 191-8) appear to be in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'). Between part I and part II are some items (press cuttings, poetry, etc.) inserted by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), including 'Gwaith Siarl Marc'. Preceding a number of blank pages are two letters from Ieuan Lleyn to Siôn Lleyn, the one undated (?copy), the other written in 1791 from Ty Mawr to Mr John Roberts at Rhyd y clafrdy, Lleyn, containing lines in the 'cywydd' metre by 'Ieuan Fardd Bryncroes' (another of the bardic names used by Ieuan Lleyn). A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.
