The University of Wales, Aberystwyth was established in 1872.
Archival history
This group of manuscripts was collected at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth during the forty years immediately preceding the establishment of the National Library of Wales in 1909. Some of the manuscripts (e.g. NLW MS 695) were acquired by the College during the period when Thomas Charles Edwards (1837-1900), himself a collector of books and manuscripts, was Principal. The group was one of many which the owners or collectors had agreed to transfer to the National Library of Wales if and when the projected institution was established at Aberystwyth.
