Plays

Typescripts of, and material relating to, a play entitled 'Y Deffro'; an operetta entitled 'Cawl Cymysg'; and the manuscript of the first scene of a play, 'Hwsmon Plas-y-Nant'; all apparently by J. Lloyd Williams. An untitled morality play in his hand is also included, together with a press cutting of his adjudication in a drama competition at Holyhead, 1927.

Owen Williams Collection

A letter, 1920, to J. Lloyd Williams, from John Griffith, Dolgellau, enclosing the tune book of Owen Williams, bearing the date 'Jany 17. 1808' and containing numerous folk tunes. Other papers containing miscellaneous hymn and folk tunes are enclosed, together with a letter, [?1887/1857], addressed to Mr Griffith Price, Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, apparently from his uncle, William ab Gruffudd, Plas Llanwnda.

Notebooks

Notebooks, each containing entries, often sparse, of a varied nature. They reflect the wide range of interests displayed throughout J. Lloyd Williams's papers, but mainly relate to music. The subjects include the history of Welsh music, folk music, Y Cerddor and the National Council of Music, his own compositions and memoirs, broadcasting and education. Entries relating to botany are also included, especially in items numbered 23-28.

NLW manuscripts

Lists of titles of tunes from manuscripts held at the National Library of Wales, and extracts relating to Welsh music; together with 'A list of the most important collections of Welsh Traditional Songs'.

Nicholas Bennett

An index on paper slips, in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, of folk tunes and songs found mainly in the work of Nicholas Bennett. References supporting his candidature for the Chair of Botany at Aberystwyth in 1903 appear on the verso of some slips.

National Council of Music

Minutes and various reports, 1938, of the University of Wales National Council of Music. They relate mainly to the role of music education in schools and the wider community. Minutes of the Haddon Committee, October 1930, and the resolutions of the sub-committee held at Bangor, December 1930, are also enclosed, together with notes in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, apparently for a meeting in November 1931.
