'Y Dyn Diarth'

A notebook containing the manuscript of a short story entitled 'Y Dyn Diarth', dated 8 August 1947. The story was published in Y Fflam, vol. 1, no. 4 (1947).

Words to music

Papers, 1949-1955, relating mainly to Wyn Griffith's libretto of Arwel Hughes's opera, 'Menna'; together with the English words, [?1930], of a song set to an old harp melody.

War diary

One diary, 1917, and fragments of dairies, December 1915-October 1916, and March-November 1918, described by Wyn Griffith as 'All that survives of my War Diary!'. A reference to the death of his brother Watcyn, July 1916, is included. Wyn Griffith's autobiography based on his war experiences is Up to Mametz (London, 1931).

Up to Mametz

Autograph copy of what Wyn Griffith describes as 'the starting point of what became Up to Mametz', an account of his experiences during the 38th (Welsh) Division's attempts to capture Mametz Wood in July 1916. The work was published in 1931.

Unfinished novel (Llwyntalcen)

Incomplete manuscript draft of an untitled work, headed 'Llwyntalcen 15 June '46', opening with the words, 'The shop was closed, the shutters down, and the long counters stretched out naked towards the front windows'.

'Troad y Droell'

A pocket book containing miscellaneous poems, [?1930], including the English words of 'Troad y Droell', ['The Whirling of the Spinning Wheel'], by Wyn Griffith. The words were set, together with Welsh words by J. Lloyd Williams, to an old Welsh harp melody arranged by Joseph Haydn, and published by Oxford University Press, [?1931].

'This Not the Song they Wish to Hear'

Manuscript drafts, 1934, and a proof copy of 'This Not the Song They Wish to Hear', published in Guy Chapman's anthology, Vain Glory: a Miscellany of the Great War, 1914-1918, [1937]. The manuscript of the poem, 'Country Tale', 1934, published in The Listener, is also included.

A typewritten draft copy, with corrections, 1944-1945, of The Mezentian Gate, the third book in E. R. Eddison's Zimiamvian trilogy. The work was published, [c. 1958], by Elek Books, London.

Rowland Williams papers

Correspondence, 1945-1951, between John Griffith's cousin, Rowland Williams, and Wyn Griffith, following the latter's request for information regarding the family history; together with three exercise books, one containing an autobiography of Rowland Williams, dated April 1946, and the others containing miscellaneous notes, 1945-1948. A few pedigree charts are also included.
