Bryn Rhedyn, Henllan

The file comprises a copy of the will of Thomas Edwards of Nant (Twm o'r Nant), 1807, in which he devised to his wife, Elizabeth, land called Bryn Rhedyn in the parish of Henllan, near the border with Llansannan, which he had from his father, bought using money borrowed from Evan Jones, butcher, of Nantglyn, with further bequests to other members of his family.

A volume in the hand of Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant') containing (a) a Welsh bardic grammar comprising 'Traethiad am Gerddwriaeth Cerdd Dafod, nid amgen nog or Cynghaneddion ...' (pp. 1-11), 'Am adnabod mesurau cerdd' (pp. 12-14), 'Traethiad am y pedwar mesur ar hugain ...' (pp. 15-26), 'Henwau beiau Cerdd' (pp. 27-35), and '... y pedwar ffugur sydd yn esgusodi dros bedwar cam neu fai' (pp. 35-36), and (b) 'Llyfr or ffigurau ai rhannau y rhai a ymchwelawdd William Salbri or Lladin ir Gamberaeg' (pp. 1-25). Both sections are indexed.

'Twm o'r Nant' MS,

A volume of Welsh poetry, 'cywyddau' and 'cerddi', given by [Thomas Edwards], 'Twm o'r Nant', to [William Owen-Pughe], 'Idrison', in 1809. Pages 1-172 are in the hand of 'Twm o'r Nant', and pages 102-110 are bicolumnar. Most of the items contained in the manuscript are the work of 'Twm o'r Nant' and are unpublished for the most part. Other poets represented in the volume are: John Thomas o bentre'r Foelas, Jonathan Hughes, Sion Prichard y gof o Dreffynon: alias Sion y Gôf ffyrnig, Gutun Gwrexham [=Edward Charles], Hywel Wehydd [= 'Hywel Eryri', Hugh Evans], John Roberts of 'plwy Lygen', and Rog[er] Edw[ar]ds. Other poems are attributed to Gwas Ystiwart Castell Rhodwy, Rhys y geiriau duon, Gelyn y Bleiddiaid, and Cynffon yr Esgob.
