Biographical history

John Julian Williams (1935-2022) of Cardiff, was a set designer in the Design Department of BBC Wales. He was the son of Thomas Basil (1896-1969) and Rhyda Ann Williams (1898-1981), and a great-nephew to Professor Mary Williams (1883-1977) and her husband G. Arbour Stephens (1870-1945) of Swansea.

Archival history

Collected from the donor’s home in Cardiff, and from Frongaer, 19 Sea View Place, the family home in Aberystwyth.

Papers of Julian Williams, former set designer in the Design Department of BBC Wales, including scripts of plays broadcast during the 1960s, among them works by Saunders Lewis and Gwenlyn Parry. The collection includes papers, photographs, and a few books relating to the donor’s family, including his parents Thomas Basil and Rhyda Ann Williams, his great-aunt Professor Mary Williams, and her husband G. Arbour Stephens of Swansea.
