Date(s) from item: Reg. yr 7, RabiI 1 received: August 7 received 1766 Envelope numbered A No. 111 Pleased to have received your letter of 4 Safar, reg. yr. 7 informing that you have returned to Calcutta and that you have considered my previous request that out of the twenty four Lac rupees allocated, twelve Lac rupees per annum may be allocated for the payment of wages of cavalry and foot soldiers and the remaining twelve Lac rupees should be returned and that the said amount has now been returned. I had previously written to you on the same subject explaining that out of the thirty-six Lac rupees, twelve Lac rupees should be deducted and out of the remaining twenty-four Lac rupees whatever is considered proper should be returned. For this purpose, after inspecting all documents relating to the salaries of the cavalry and foot soldiers from 1 Dhu al-Qadah onwards, whatever amount is considered proper should be returned to us. At the time when I was there all papers relating to this affair were not ready. Whatever papers I have received so far are enclosed for your consideration. Any reduction in the above allocation will result in hardship. Previously we also tried to reduce this amount but the government officials only made deduction of some appropriate amount and whatever amount was received from Sirishtahdars and Bakhshigiri was sent to you. I wait for your decision on this issue. Whatever papers are available at present are being handed over to Nizam al-Daulah Bahadur and whatever papers we receive later will be send to you.
Enclosure 1: Out of a total of twenty four lacs sixty six thousand rupees only five lac and seventy four and sixty five rupees was received here in the month of Zi al-Qa’d. Fifteen lac and ninety one thousand three hundred and eighty nine rupees is still wanting from the salyanah / annual revenue. If we have to send any sum out of the above amount we will face hardship and have to lay off essential workers from the government factories.
Enclosure 2: Details of amounts required for salaries of the government workers
