Biographical history

Hugh Robert Hughes (1827-1911) of Kinmel Park, Flintshire, was an authority on Welsh heraldry and geneaology.

Archival history

The manuscript and deeds were brought together by H.R. Hughes who had acquired the collections of John Williams of Beaumaris and of Angharad Llwyd of Caerwys. To these, he added manuscripts from various other sources.

The Kinmel deeds came from the collection of Angharad Llwyd, and many carry endorsements in her hand. She acquired them from a number of sources. The majority of the deeds seem to have once formed part of the archive of the Salusbury family of Lleweni.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer

Purchased from the trustees of the estate of Mr Hugh Robert Hughes of Kinmel Park, Abergele, Flintshire in 1914.
