Over sixty letters, 1840-1890, including some transcripts, mostly addressed to George Crawshay, from prominent political figures, reflecting his active rĂ´le in politics, particularly with regard to the 'Foreign Affairs Committee' of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Among the correspondents are John Bright (1) 1854, Richard Cobden (13) 1844-1855, Ralph Waldo Emerson (4) 1847-1848, William Ewart Gladstone (1) 1857, Henry George Grey, 3rd earl Grey (7, including four transcripts) 1858-1880, Lajos Kossuth (1) 1855, John Stuart Mill (1) 1867, and Sir Robert Peel (1) 1846. Also included are eleven letters, 1854-1892, from George Crawshay including letters to Richard Cobden, Henry George Grey, 3rd earl Grey, and Harriet Angelina Urquhart, wife of David Urquhart, and transcripts of a letter from Giuseppe Garibaldi, 1859, and John Ruskin, 1860.
