Administrative history
The Rheidol Lodge was established in 1842 and was successively registered at the White Hart Inn in 1879, the Eagles Restaurant in 1926, and 32 North Parade in 1969, all in Aberystwyth. Like all other lodges in the Gwalia District its membership declined steadily during the twentieth century, from 141 in 1918, to 122 in 1930 and to 84 in 1958 by which time it was the largest lodge in the District. From 1958 onwards this decline in membership was reversed by regular amalgamations of other lodges with the Rheidol beginning with the Cambrian Lodge in 1958 and continuing with the Iolo Goch and St Davids Lodges, 1962, Llynlleoedd, 1966, St Padarns 1968 until membership stood at 164 in 1972. The Rheidol was the last surviving lodge within the Gwalia District. A District comprising of one lodge was unsustainable and sometime after 1976 the Rheidol Lodge was transferred to the Montgomery District.
