Scope and content
Rental of chief rents and cymortha due to Sir Charles Morgan in the manors of Arnold Castle, Basaleg, Caldicot West End, Cogan Fleming, Cogan Pembroke, Dyffryn, Ebboth, English Dowles, Fitz John de la Moor, Hengwrt & Marshfield, Llanfaches, Llanfair, Machen, Magor le Green Moor, Malpas, Mendelgyf, Pen-carn, Redcastle, St Brides, Shirenewton, Stow, Sutton, Undy, Welsh Dowles, Wentlloog, Yolton, and free rents in Llanfihangel, Roggiet and Ifton (ff. 1-105). The rental gives the rent due from each tenant, the number of years in arrears at Michaelmas 1857, and rents received, 1857-1869. The remainder of the volume (ff. 105-end) is the account of William Treharne Rees with Sir Charles Morgan, 1857-1871, for receipts of chief rents, heriots and fines and expenditure, settled with Frederick Justice. This volume is to some extent a duplicate of MM 3/19 (both appear to have been used at each rent audit, and to that extent neither is a copy of the other), but that volume does not contain the receipt and expenditure account of William Treharne Rees, but includes rents received for 1870, and has many more notes of names of holdings and changes of tenants.
