Scope and content
Typescript drafts, [mid-1950s]-1958, of almost the entirety of Augustus John, Finishing Touches (London: Jonathan Cape, 1964). Each chapter is present with the exception of 'Gwendolen John' (pp. 79-81 in the book); the three chapters first published as Candid Impressions 1-3 in the Sunday Times, 28 September-12 October 1958, are represented by cuttings of the original articles (ff. 102-104). The drafts are a mixture of top copies and carbon copies; some contain emendations, mostly by the author (ff. 20-25, 42, 56-65, 69-75, 92-100, 105, 109, 112-121, 129-130), while the remainder are fair copies.
