Administrative history

The Academic Board was constituted by the Supplemental Charter of 1920 following the report of the Haldane Commission, 1916-1918. The Board replaced the Senate. Its primary function is to advise the University Council on academic matters relating to the University. It regulates all university examinations and has power to confer academic titles of the University. It also has the power to authorise the admission of degrees; to confer and grant diplomas and licences; to award fellowships, studentships, scholarships, and prizes; and to appoint external examiners and approve internal examiners. The Board can recommend to the University Council on the establishment or closure of University departments, and it can also propose statutes and make academic ordinances. It can also delegate some of its functions to University faculties.
