Biographical history
The Standing Executive Committee was the most important of the committees answerable to the University Court. The Committee, or at least a provisional committee, was established in 1894. The Standing Committee was responsible for University finance and dealt also with examinations, University representation on outside bodies and conferences and indeed on any subject delegated to it by the Court. Following reorganisation of the structure of the University in the wake of the Haldane Commission, the Committee was dissolved in 1920 and its functions taken over by the newly created University Council.
