Biographical history

Dr Prys Morgan is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Wales, Swansea, Glamorgan. His main field of research is eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Wales, and his numerous publications on the subject include a book on Iolo Morganwg. He sits on various bodies connected with the arts and conservation such as the Historic Buildings Council for Wales which advises the National Assembly for Wales on grant assistance for, and planning matters relating to, historic buildings. He has also been assistant editor of Barn, and editor of the Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion.

Archival history

The thirty Welsh pamphlets, 1779-1865 of Methodist interest were chiefly collected between 1800 and 1818 by Christopher Ballard of Aberthaw, Glamorgan. These papers were formerly in the possession of Prof. T. J. Morgan, who was the father of Prys Morgan.

Donated by Prys Morgan in 1990. Box of letters from Rhodri Morgan donated in November 2020.

Papers of Prys Morgan, 1961-1988, including papers relating to Barn, 1966-1973, papers relating to the Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, 1973-1988; pamphlets of Methodist interest, 1779-1865; and letters sent by Rhodri Morgan to his family while he was a student at Harvard university in the USA.
