Biographical history
Penty Park was the home of the Philipps family, the descendants of James Philipps, the son of Williaim Philipps, the second son of Sir Thomas Philipps (d. c. 1519) of Picton Castle. This family failed with another James Philipps (d. 1794), whose only daughter, Mary Philipps (d. 1815) married Sir Richard Philipps (d, 1823) of Picton Castle, who was created Lord Milford. The estate passed to John Lloyd of Ffosybleiddiaid,Cardiganshire, who had married Mary, the only sister of the last James Philipps, and was inherited by Colonel James Philipps Lloyd (d. 1837). Penty Park afterwards passed back to the Lloyd family, which failed with the death of Richard Llewellin Lloyd (d. 1938). Grace, one of his three daughters, married Trevelyan Jones, who moved to live at Penty Park.
