Scope and content
Fuel research reports produced by the staff of the Coal Survey Laboratory at the School of Mines, Treforest. Research work centered on surveying the Nine Feet Seam in the South Wales coalfield through examination and sampling. The work of the Coal Survey Laboratory was directed by the Local Coal Survey Committee (South Wales), set up under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Material consists primarily of analyses of samples taken from various seams worked in South Wales collieries, and often includes sketch maps of sample locations, a report on the fusion point of coal ash, and related letters and correspondence. Reports on other related topics, such as hydrogenation of South Wales coals, spontaneous combustion, and the breakage of coals are also included.
