History
The School Examinations and Assessment Council was established under the Education Reform Act 1988 to advise the Secretaries of State on all school examinations and assessment matters. It took over these functions from the Secondary Examinations Council. Its remit was to develop the assessment system at ages 7, 11, 14 and 16 for the new national curriculum.
