Two printed copies of James Griffiths' maiden speech in Parliament.

A printed copy of a speech given by James Griffiths to the annual Labour Party Conference at Blackpool in 1951 on the achievements of the Clement Attlee led Labour Government between 1945 and 1951 entitled "The Labour Government; A Record of Achievement".

The series comprises published items either written by or with contributions from James Griffiths or Winnifred Griffiths on various subjects including the coal industry, National Insurance, the achievements of Labour governments, industrial relations, poverty and international relations.

The file comprises letters and papers relating to James Griffiths' decision not to seek re-election as the Member of Parliament for Llanelli in the 1970 General Election, including the annotated typescript of a speech given by Griffiths the the Llanelli Constituency Labour Party on 13 May 1967 where he announces his decision not to seek re-election, and confirms his support for Britain joining the European Economic Community, a copy of an article in the Western Mail about choosing his successor and related correspondence and several letters from the secretary of the Llanelli Constituency Labour Party pressing James Griffiths on a decision.
