Archival history
The items were deposited as Twenty-five packages containing manuscript and printed texts believed to be created within the 18th-20th century, in Tibetan Uchen text. They were acquired by the depositor- Mr Stephen Selby in 1978 whilst on a tour of duty as an official of the British Council in Mongolia. Most of the texts are of a religious nature but also included are medical, astronomical and astrological texts. Amongst the religious works are a text of the 'Eight Thousand Sayings of Buddha' (eighteenth century manuscript), religious texts of the Gyebyba Sect, and a version of the 'Lama Rim' of 'Ts'ong K' a Ba, founder of the `Yellow Hat Sect' (printed, nineteenth century).
