Administrative history

The University Council was established in the reorganisation of University administration by supplemental charter in 1920 following the report of the Royal Commission on University Education in Wales. It assumed the financial responsibility of the Standing Executive Committee of the Court and the University Senate and became responsible therefore for the control of University property, investments, accounts and finances. It was also responsible for the appointment of examiners; the awards of Studentships and Fellowships; the creation of new departments within the constituent colleges of the University; and the conferring of Honorary Degrees. It held its first meeting on 9 December 1920.
