Administrative history
The Guild of Graduates or the 'Third Estate' was a convocation that was established by the Charter which set up the University of Wales in 1893. Its composition was revised by the provision of the Supplemental Charter of 1920. Everyone who graduates within the University of Wales becomes a member of the Guild of Graduates. The aim of the Guild is 'to enable past and present students to come together in mutual fellowship, to advance the cause of education in Wales, and to foster and support historical and literary research'. The Guild's activities are overseen by a Standaing Committee, and it has a number of regional branches, in Wales and elsewhere, and sections covering subjects. The Guild's activities run in parallel with those of alumni bodies of the individual bodies, e.g. University of Aberystwyth Old Student's Association.
