History
Tyllwyd, Cardiganshire, was the seat of John Vaughan (1764-1845), the only surviving son of Edward Vaughan of Greengrove, the natural son of Dorothy, Countess of Lisburne. He purchased the estate from John Bowen of Castle Green, Cardigan. John Vaughan married Jane, eldest daughter of Herbert Evans of Highmead, Cardiganshire. Under the terms of the will of his great-uncle, David Lloyd of Brynog, Cardiganshire, John Vaughan took the additional surname of Lloyd as inheritor of the Brynog estate. Mary Ann Vaughan Lloyd, eldest daughter of John and Jane, married John Lewes (173-1860), owner of the Llanllyr estate, Cardiganshire. Mary and John lived at Tyllwyd until it was bought by Charles Arthur Prichard, who was married to Dorothea, Mary Ann's younger sister.
