Administrative history
W. Evans George and Sons, a solicitors firm based in Newcastle Emlyn, Cardiganshire, dealt with the estates of the Brigstocke family of Llechdynny, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, and Blaenpant, Cardiganshire, until 1912. The original residence of the Brigstocke family in Wales was Llechdwnni in the parish of Llandefaelog, Carmarthenshire. The reversion of the Llechdwnni estate was sold by Morris Bowen to John Brigstocke (1604-1640) for £528. His great-grandson, William Brigstocke (1686-1725), acquired the Blaen-pant estate in the parish of Llandygwydd, Cardiganshire, through his marriage to Elizabeth Jenkins of Blaen-pant and Carrog, Cardiganshire. Their son, William Brigstocke (1708-1751) of Blaen-pant and Llechdwnni, married Mary, heiress of Francis Lloyd of Glyn, Carmarthenshire, in 1739. Owen's son was William Owen Brigstocke (1761-1831), of Blaenpant, Llechdwnni and Gellidywyll. He inherited the Gellidywyll estate in Cenarth, Carmarthenshire, in 1795, from Captain Thomas Lewes. Gellidywyll remained a seat of the family until the latter part of the nineteenth century, when it was sold to the Earl of Cawdor. William Owen Brigstocke (1784-1861), son of William Owen Brigstocke, died without issue, and the estate passed to his nephew, another William Owen Brigstocke (1831-1900), of Blaenpant. His heir, Augustus Brigstocke (1854-1930), sold the Blaenpant estate in the early twentieth century. Augustus' heir was Gwilym Owen Brigstocke. Llechdwnni was inherited by Augustus Henry Brigstocke, grandson of William Owen Brigstocke (1761-1831). Augustus died without issue in 1909, and devised Llechdwnni to his sister, Isabella Fegan who sold the estate. The family moved to Dyffryn, The Parade, Carmarthen, and established a company, Brigstocke & Son, wine and spirit merchants.
